📉 VANCOUVER SEES RARE POPULATION DECLINE

Vancouver’s population fell by roughly 8,000 people between 2024 and 2025, according to B.C. Stats — reportedly the city’s biggest decline in more than 20 years.

Changes to federal immigration policy are being cited as a major factor, while Vancouver’s high cost of housing and everyday living continues to put pressure on residents.

🏙️ The decline marks a notable shift for a city that has experienced significant growth over the years.

💬 Do you think Vancouver is becoming too expensive for people to stay and build a future?

🔥 EVACUATIONS EXPAND AS MASSIVE PEAR LAKE WILDFIRE GROWS

More residents in B.C.’s South Cariboo are being told to leave or prepare to evacuate as the Pear Lake wildfire continues to expand.

New evacuation orders have been issued for properties along Highway 99 west of Cache Creek, bringing the number of evacuated properties in the Bonaparte Plateau and Blue Sky Country areas to 81.

⚠️ Meanwhile, more than 1,500 properties in the Bonaparte Plateau remain under evacuation alert. Updated orders and alerts are also affecting more than 100 properties around Pavilion and Marble Lake.

🔥 The Pear Lake wildfire has now grown beyond 1,600 square kilometres, making it an enormous and increasingly serious fire.

Weather could make firefighting efforts more difficult, with the BC Wildfire Service warning of strong winds and possible dry lightning across parts of the southern and central Interior.

🚨 B.C. remains under a provincial state of emergency as crews continue battling wildfires across the province.

Residents in affected communities should closely follow official evacuation instructions and be ready to leave immediately if an order is issued.

❤️ Stay safe, B.C. — and please keep evacuation routes clear for residents and emergency crews.

🔥 Wildfire Smoke: Protect Your Health

Wildfire smoke can affect your health even when flames are far from your community. During smoky conditions, residents are encouraged to:

✅ Check local air-quality updates
✅ Reduce strenuous outdoor activity
✅ Keep windows closed and create a cleaner-air space indoors
✅ Wear a properly fitted N95 respirator when exposure cannot be avoided
✅ Pay extra attention to children, seniors, pregnant people and anyone with heart or lung conditions

Free N95 and medical masks are available while supplies last at selected B.C. locations. Check the official list before travelling to collect masks.

Anyone experiencing chest pain, serious breathing difficulty, severe coughing, dizziness or heart palpitations should seek medical help. Call 9-1-1 for an emergency or 8-1-1 for health advice.

Stay informed through official sources, as evacuation alerts and air-quality conditions can change quickly. ❤️🇨🇦
