🐟 Today is the International Day against illegal, unreported and unregulated fishing.

Unfortunately, same as last year, between 11 to 26 million tonnes of fish are caught illegally, excluding legitimate harvesters and fishing operations from the proceeds of an honest catch while bringing risk to consumers, who are often unable to verify the provenance of their seafood.

The UN's commitment to combat IUUF started in 2015 with the FAO's mission to bring awareness to both consumers, producers and distributors of seafood.

"It is estimated that 1 in every 5 fish caught, comes from IUU fishing. When such fish ends up on our plates, we are unwitting accomplices in unsustainable, and often criminal practices, that are damaging for our future well-being and the sustainability of our planet.
