Problem solving and solutions in IT is the process of identifying the real cause of a technology issue, choosing the right fix, and preventing the problem from happening again.
A strong IT problem-solving approach usually looks like this:
Identify the problem — Understand exactly what the user is experiencing. What changed? When did it start? Who is affected?
Gather information — Check error messages, logs, network connectivity, hardware status, software versions, recent updates, and user reports.
Find the root cause — Avoid simply treating the symptom. For example, a slow computer might be caused by failing hardware, malware, insufficient resources, or a network issue.
Develop a solution — Determine the safest and most efficient fix while considering downtime, security, cost, and business impact.
Implement and test — Apply the solution and verify that the original problem is actually resolved.
Document the solution — Record what happened, what caused it, and how it was fixed so future incidents can be resolved faster.
Prevent recurrence — Use monitoring, patching, cybersecurity, backups, lifecycle management, and preventative maintenance to reduce future problems.

Instead of waiting for something to break, an MSP monitors systems, identifies warning signs, maintains infrastructure, and addresses risks before they become expensive business disruptions.
