May 14 is Moose Hide Campaign Day, a day of collective commitment to ending violence against women and children across Turtle Island.

Right now, in Canada, the unacceptable is still happening. Nearly half of all women in Canada have experienced at least one incident of physical or sexual violence since the age of 16. Spousal violence against Indigenous women is three times higher than against non-Indigenous women. These are people deeply loved by their families and communities — and this violence is completely preventable.

In 2011, Paul Lacerte and his daughter Raven were hunting for food along BC's Highway of Tears, a 725-kilometre stretch of road between Prince George and Prince Rupert, where so many women have gone missing or been murdered. Moved to act, they turned the moose hide into small squares to encourage men and boys to stand up against violence towards women and children. That act of love and grief grew into a national movement, with over seven million pins now shared across Canada.

The campaign recognizes that all forms of violence are unacceptable, and that engaging men and boys is essential to ending it. This is a movement for all of us to stand behind.

Every act of solidarity brings us closer to the change we need.

May 5 is Red Dress Day, also known as the National Day of Awareness for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls, and Two-Spirit People (MMIWG2S+).

In 2009, Métis artist Jaime Black hung empty red dresses in public spaces, the REDress Project. Each dress represented a missing or murdered Indigenous woman, girl, or Two-Spirit person, a visible, collective reminder of a crisis deeply felt across Indigenous communities.

That crisis is ongoing. The 2019 National Inquiry into Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls produced 231 Calls for Justice, a roadmap for real change that families and communities are still waiting to see fulfilled. These are mothers, daughters, sisters, aunties, and relatives whose absence is felt deeply across Turtle Island.

Today we remember them. We hold their families in our hearts. We stand for justice in their honour.

Planning a vote takes preparation, coordination, and clear communication. When voting events run smoothly, they help build trust and support strong community decision-making.

In our latest blog guide, we share five tips to help Nations organize well-run voting events, including:

From intern to permanent staff.

Through the Career Services Program at First Nations Technology Council, Brennan Rehlau joined OneFeather as an IT intern. Today, he is a permanent member of the team as an IT Support Technician.

This partnership reflects our shared commitment to advancing Indigenous tech talent and creating pathways for long-term workforce development in the technology sector.

We are honoured to share the experience of Brennan, a member of the Ojibway community:

“To earn my place from intern to a permanent employee has rewritten what is possible for me as someone of Indigenous descent working in the tech space; a career I had only dreamt of previously.

I hope others like myself dreaming of opportunity feel motivated and know that with great effort and pride in your work, you can achieve what's in your heart.”

March 20 marks the Spring Equinox. 🌱

The Spring Equinox is a time when day and night are in balance, marking the arrival of spring and the renewal of life on the land.

For many First Nations, Métis and Inuit Peoples, this seasonal change holds deep cultural meaning. It signals a time of growth, planting, gathering medicines, and reconnecting with the rhythms of nature. It is also a reminder of the teachings that guide respectful relationships with the Earth and all living beings.

As the seasons change, we honour the knowledge, traditions, and stewardship that Indigenous communities have carried forward for generations.

📈 2025 marked a year of growth, and that progress continues into 2026.

Together with communities across Turtle Island, we helped strengthen governance, improve access to services, and support Indigenous digital sovereignty.

2025 highlights include:

• 57,500+ digital ballots cast
• 48,000+ status card applications created to date (6,751 in 2025)
• 25,995 people served
• 22,000+ paper ballots cast
• 201 voting events delivered

We also strengthened our team, with 71% growth in Indigenous team members and 32% overall team growth, while continuing to invest in Indigenous vendors and talent.

In response to Nation feedback, we launched the Members-Only Document Sharing feature to help communities manage sensitive information securely and support stronger digital governance.
