I’m preparing a simple and practical workshop on cybersecurity for real life.

Not a complicated course full of technical jargon. The goal is to help people better understand the everyday traps we see all the time:

email and text scams, fake refunds, fake delivery messages, fake virus alerts, passwords, password managers, protecting important accounts, and organizing your digital life.

I’m thinking of offering a first 90-minute pilot workshop, in a small group, with a big question period. The goal: leave with simple, practical tips that are easy to apply.

Before setting a first date, I’d like to get a feel for the interest.

Je prépare un atelier simple et concret sur la cybersécurité pour le vrai monde.

Pas un cours compliqué rempli de jargon. L’idée est plutôt d’aider les gens à mieux comprendre les pièges qu’on voit tous les jours :

fraudes par courriel ou texto, faux remboursements, faux messages de livraison, fausses alertes de virus, mots de passe, gestionnaire de mots de passe, protection des comptes importants et organisation de sa vie numérique.

Je pense offrir un premier atelier pilote de 90 minutes, en petit groupe, avec une grande période de questions. L’objectif : repartir avec des réflexes simples, concrets et faciles à appliquer.

Avant de fixer une première date, j’aimerais prendre le pouls.

I fix computers… but I do a lot more than that.

When people think of me, they often think about computer repairs or laptop sales.

And yes, I do that.

But in real life, my service calls often involve much more than just a computer problem:

emails that stop working, messy contacts, photos scattered everywhere, printers that disappear, unstable Wi-Fi, smart TVs that are not set up properly, sound systems, streaming apps, backups, passwords, cell phones, tablets, Microsoft 365, OneDrive, important data, home mesh networks, and a lot more.

At the end of the day, my job is often to bring order to everything related to technology, whether it’s at home or at work.

I’m not only there when a computer is broken.

I’m also there to help people simplify their digital environment, better understand their tools, protect their data, and make all their technology work together instead of making their life more complicated.

Because in the end, technology should help you… not make you swear. 😉

Je répare des ordinateurs… mais je fais pas mal plus que ça.

Quand les gens pensent à moi, ils pensent souvent à la réparation d’ordinateur ou à la vente de portables.

Et oui, je fais ça.

Mais dans la vraie vie, mes interventions ressemblent souvent à quelque chose de beaucoup plus large :

courriels qui ne fonctionnent plus, contacts mélangés, photos éparpillées, imprimante qui disparaît, Wi-Fi instable, télévision intelligente mal configurée, système de son, applications de streaming, sauvegardes, mots de passe, cellulaire, tablette, Microsoft 365, OneDrive, données importantes, réseau mesh à la maison, et j’en passe.

Au fond, mon travail, c’est souvent de remettre de l’ordre dans tout ce qui touche à la technologie, que ce soit à la maison ou au travail.

Je ne suis pas seulement là quand un ordinateur est brisé.

Je suis aussi là pour aider les gens à simplifier leur environnement numérique, mieux comprendre leurs outils, protéger leurs données et faire en sorte que toute leur technologie travaille ensemble au lieu de leur compliquer la vie.

Parce qu’au final, la technologie devrait vous aider… pas vous faire sacrer. 😉

We often think we’re simplifying things by adding more…
another app, another device, another account.

But in reality, that’s usually the problem 😅

The way I see it:
👉 fewer devices
👉 fewer platforms
👉 but better choices… and most importantly, better organization

Because the real solution isn’t buying more.
It’s getting things in order.

Photos everywhere, email chaos, files you can’t find…
we all know there’s something to fix… we just keep putting it off.

This setup I completed today at Mary’s place made me smile 😄

We replaced an old mini PC because she wanted to be able to use her computer in another room.
👉 Instead of adding another device to her digital life, we simplified things: a laptop + docking station = one cable to plug/unplug and everything just works.

And then… perfect combo:
top-notch monitor, vintage speakers, a Bell phone from another era… and a Larousse dictionary as a stand 😅

💡 Just a reminder that a good setup isn’t always about having everything brand new — it’s about building something that actually fits your needs.

Ce setup que j’ai complété aujourd’hui chez Mary m’a fait sourire 😄

On a remplacé un vieux mini PC, parce qu’elle voulait utiliser son ordinateur dans une autre pièce.
👉 Au lieu d’ajouter un appareil de plus, on a simplifié : un laptop + une station d’accueil = un seul câble à brancher, et tout fonctionne.

Et là… combo parfait :
écran top notch, speakers vintage, téléphone Bell d’une autre époque… et un Larousse comme support 😅

💡 Comme quoi un bon setup, ce n’est pas toujours du neuf partout — c’est surtout bien réfléchi selon les besoins.

A little reality from the Ottawa/Gatineau region 👇

I still see a ton of people using US keyboards, just because their computer is in English…
Result: they never really get used to the French Canadian layout.

And then we get the classic 👇
👉 accents done with Alt codes 🤯

Meanwhile, on a Canadian French keyboard… they’re already right there.

But here’s the important nuance 👇

👉 The physical keyboard (what’s printed on the keys)
VS
👉 The layout set in Windows (what your computer actually uses)

Those don’t have to match.

You can absolutely have a US keyboard…
and still type in French perfectly if Windows is set up right 👍

At the end of the day, layout is partly preference… partly habit 😉

Je vois encore énormément de gens avec des claviers US, juste parce que leur ordi est en anglais…
Résultat : jamais vraiment habitués au clavier canadien français.

Et là on tombe dans le classique 👇
👉 les accents avec des Alt + codes 🤯

Alors que sur un clavier canadien… ils sont déjà là.

Mais petite nuance importante 👇

👉 Le clavier physique (les lettres imprimées dessus)
VS
👉 Le layout configuré dans Windows (ce que l’ordi comprend)

C’est pas obligé d’être pareil.

Tu peux très bien avoir un clavier US…
et écrire en français sans problème si Windows est bien configuré 👍

Bref, le layout c’est une préférence… mais aussi une habitude 😉

Slowly becoming less common —
not because it’s complicated,
but because many laptops are no longer designed to be repaired.
