The custom control panel we built for Thomas is now live on his Sunbeam 36.
Clean, organised and ready for action — every circuit under control from a single, clearly labelled point.
Interchangeable labels, LED indicators, bilge pump alarms and 9-colour dimmable backlight all working perfectly onboard.

-18 DC on-off channels (16A max)
-4 AC on-off channels (16A max)

🔧 Altaïr | Venus OS, DIY dual smart shunt, and a hand-built panel — even on holiday.

Last December, near Barcelona, I was asked to build and install a complete electrical panel on Altaïr, a sailing vessel. No parts warehouse: every component sourced locally, everything wired by hand on site.

At the heart of the system: a Raspberry Pi 3 running Venus OS — the DIY alternative to Victron's Cerbo GX, at a fraction of the cost — paired with a dual smart shunt built from scratch using an ESP32 and two INA226 sensors. Two battery banks monitored in real time (service + engine), DS18B20 temperature sensors integrated, everything visible on a 5" touchscreen mounted in the panel.

A few technical highlights covered in the article:
⚡ VE.Direct connection via FT232RL + galvanic isolation with ADUM1201
📡 ESP32 → Raspberry Pi via UART over GPIO, with a second ADUM1201
📊 Venus OS integration via MQTT
🌡️ DS18B20 sensors on 1-Wire bus directly on GPIO
🔋 Two INA226s on I²C for independent monitoring of both battery banks
