Not every team wants moisture data tied to the mowing schedule. That's why turfRad also works as an array mount - two sensors on a utility vehicle, scanning whenever you need it.

Early morning before play. Mid-day during a stress period. Non-mowing days. The array mount gives you full flexibility - and because you can drive significantly faster than a mower, full-course scans take a fraction of the time.

A few setup details worth knowing:
- Maintain roughly 3 m (10 ft) between sensors for clean footprints and reliable interpolation
- Mount sensors at least 0.8 m (2.5 ft) above ground
- Keep pass spacing within 5 m (16.5 ft) to avoid visible data gaps

For Toro MDX/GTX users, a dedicated Toro Array Mount is available through your Toro distributor.

“This has really saved the day for us on the TOUR.”
For PGA TOUR Agronomist Thomas Bastis, turfRad has transformed the conversation.
Instead of relying on assumptions, full-course, root-zone moisture data provides a shared understanding of what's happening on the course - making discussions more proactive, improving collaboration with superintendents, and helping identify opportunities before they become problems.

Hear how Thomas uses turfRad to support tournament preparation and why more PGA TOUR agronomists are adopting this approach.

Collect moisture data without changing your workflow.
A common way golf courses use turfRad is by mounting the sensor directly to a fairway mower. As the mower follows its normal route, turfRad passively collects high-resolution root-zone moisture data - no extra passes, no additional labor, and no disruption to your team's routine.

The result?

Consistent scan paths, reliable moisture maps, and objective data to support more informed irrigation decisions.

The turfRad universal mount fits most fairway mowers and is quick to install and remove. A step-by-step assembly video is available here:

For TORO 5010 and 3500 Series fairway mowers, dedicated mounting brackets are available through your local TORO distributor.

“We’ve become terribly consistent because we have the information.”
For Jake Schmitz, Superintendent at Olympic Hills Golf Club, that was one of the biggest changes after introducing turfRad into his daily routine.
When you can see what's happening across your course, irrigation decisions become more informed, consistency improves, and you gain a whole new understanding of your property.

What Influences Your Moisture Maps? 💧
Every moisture map tells a story, but understanding that story requires more than simply looking at the colors. The patterns you see are shaped by a combination of agronomic factors, including:

🌱 Height of cut
🌱 Soil type
🌱 Irrigation performance
🌱 Weather conditions
🌱 Cultural practices

Understanding how these factors interact is key to interpreting why moisture varies across your course.

Our latest Help Center article explains how grass type, height of cut, and other surface characteristics influence your turfRad readings, and how turfRad accounts for these differences to deliver meaningful moisture data.

Agronomy Practices & How to Interpret Your Data
Discover the unseen processes shaping moisture across your golf course.

We'll connect these agronomic principles with real-world examples and show how they influence the moisture patterns you see every day.
