I once saw ladies on social media saying:
“Menstrual cups are so comfortable. You won’t even know you’re wearing one.”
Then somebody added, “It’s economical.”
That economical gangan entered my head and convinced me to try it. 😂
I said, “If I buy this thing once and stop buying pads every month, why not?”
Omooooo! 😭
I didn’t know I was about to enroll in Menstrual Cup Engineering School. 🤦🏾♀️
The time I would have used to wear my pad jejely, I was folding this cup like I was solving a mathematics question.
One angle… ❌
Another angle… ❌
Squat… ❌
One-leg balance… ❌
At one point, I was doing Kung Fu Panda in the bathroom. 😭
I opened my legs like I was preparing to deliver triplets.
This cup was fighting for its life.
I folded it, pushed it in, and somehow it opened halfway and looked at me like:
“Madam, what exactly are we doing here?” 😭😭
I even started sweating.
Not because of the weather o…
Menstrual cup sweat! 😂
After enough attempts and negotiations to qualify for a UN peace meeting, I finally got it inside.
I stood up, walked around, bent down, jumped small and even did one unnecessary waist movement.
Everything seemed fine.
I said, “Ah! Beryl, you have conquered technology!” 😌
Until I wanted to urinate.
Omo.
I entered the toilet, sat down and started peeing…
But something was not right.
The urine was coming out like somebody had reduced the pressure from the tap:
“Pssssss…” 😭
I waited.
Nothing.
I pushed small.
“Pssssss…”
I said, “What is this one again?”
That was when I remembered:
“Madam, you put this thing inside yourself!” 🤦🏾♀️
I quickly removed it, washed it and abandoned the entire economical project.
Because what exactly is all this fingerling? 😭
And the discomfort?
I could feel something inside me, so I started sitting like somebody balancing on a hot chair.
Shift left…
Shift right…
Cross legs…
Uncross legs…
Then I remembered:
“Beryl, YOU are the one who put this thing there.” 😭😂
If I coughed:
“Hope this thing is still where I left it?”
If I sneezed:
“Has it shifted?”
If I wanted to sit down quickly:
“Easy! We are carrying precious cargo.” 😂
At that point, I no longer cared about the economy.
I wanted PEACE.
I brought out my Softcare pad, wore it jejely and sat down.
The relief! 😭❤️
It felt like returning home after a very stressful journey.
That day, I learnt an important lesson:
Not everything that is economical is for everybody. 😂
Some women absolutely love menstrual cups, and that’s perfectly fine.
But me?
Me and menstrual cup have settled our differences.
I wish it well in life. 😂
