Fiber Bragg Grating (FBG) reflectors are specialized optical components that function as wavelength-specific mirrors within an optical fiber. By permanently modifying the refractive index of the fiber core, they reflect a narrow band of light while allowing all other wavelengths to pass through with minimal loss.

Key Features and Performance:

1) Wavelength Selectivity: Reflectors are designed to target specific wavelengths (e.g., 1650nm for network monitoring) with high precision, typically reflecting nearly 100% of the target signal.

2) Low Insertion Loss: Wavelengths outside the reflection band pass through with very low attenuation (often < 1.0 dB), ensuring no disruption to standard traffic in communications networks.

3) High Stability and Reliability: The grating is inscribed directly into the fiber core and often encapsulated in ceramic ferrules or athermal packaging, making it resistant to dirt, mechanical stress, and temperature fluctuations.

4) Immunity to Interference: Since they operate purely on optical principles, FBG reflectors are immune to electromagnetic interference (EMI) and radio frequency interference (RFI).

5) Compact Form Factor: They are available in standard connector types (SC/APC, LC/APC) or as pigtail/in-line versions, allowing for easy integration into existing fiber adapters and ONU (Optical Network Unit) sides.

Common Applications:

FTTH/PON Monitoring: Used at the customer end (ONU) to reflect test pulses (1650nm) back to an OTDR (Optical Time Domain Reflectometer) for real-time link fault detection without disturbing user data.
