🚨 Amazon is introducing a new requirement for certain AI-generated images
It is important to clarify this because some misleading interpretations are already circulating: Amazon is not requiring disclosure for every image created with AI.
The requirement specifically applies to images that include photorealistic people generated with artificial intelligence.
For example:
✅ AI-generated models
✅ Artificial families with a realistic appearance
✅ AI-generated athletes or professionals
✅ Photorealistic people added or significantly modified with AI
In these cases, the file must include the following keyword:
`contains-synthetic-performer`
This information must be added to the XMP `dc:subject` metadata field before the image is uploaded to Amazon.
📌 Important: you do not need to place a visible label, disclaimer, watermark, or text directly on the image.
The disclosure is handled through the file’s metadata, and Amazon may automatically display a notice to customers when required by applicable law.
This specific requirement does not necessarily apply to AI-generated images that only contain:
• Products
• Backgrounds or environments
• Landscapes
• Flowers or decorative elements
• Animals
• Infographics
• Compositions without photorealistic AI-generated people
For designers, sellers, and brands using AI to create lifestyle images, Amazon listings, or A+ Content, this may seem like a small technical change, but it is an important one.
Artificial intelligence will continue to play a bigger role in ecommerce, but transparency requirements will continue to grow as well.
Creating an attractive image will no longer be enough. Brands and designers will also need to understand platform policies, prepare files correctly, and stay updated on new requirements.
