What happens when photonics meets agriculture? Or when AI meets water networks?

CYRIC coordinates and contributes to European research and innovation projects in photonics, sensing, digital agriculture, environmental monitoring, smart infrastructure, AI-enabled automation and sustainable farming.

Different domains, one philosophy: combine the right technologies, and you solve problems no single field could tackle alone.

Invitation to the RE-GreenVOCs Demo Workshop.

As part of the RE-GreenVOCs Project (CODEVELOP-REPowerEU/1223/101), we invite representatives of the public agricultural sector and policy makers, the environmental research community, and students to participate in the workshop:

🌱 “From Woody Waste to Sustainable Solutions for Agriculture and Livestock Farming”

📅 Wednesday, 10 June 2026
⏰ 10:15 AM – 1:15 PM
📍 Idhalium Municipal Cultural Centre
📝For online registration: https://forms.gle/r9813yAQfWXCcC1Y9
📑For the event agenda: https://shorturl.at/sKflX

The RE-GreenVOCs project has developed and implemented a holistic approach to address two significant environmental challenges:

o The management of woody waste generated from private and municipal pruning activities and collected at Green Points.
o The reduction of Volatile Organic Compound (VOC) emissions, which contributes to unpleasant odors and air quality degradation in areas with intensive livestock farming activities.

During the workshop, participants will learn about:

✅ The objectives and activities of the RE-GreenVOCs project.
✅ Sustainable agricultural waste management practices.
✅ Strategies for reducing VOC emissions.
✅ Circular economy solutions in the agricultural sector.

🌐 The event will be conducted in Greek and is open to all interested participants.

CYRIC is pleased to introduce MIMIR, a new project focused on the development of a new generation of miniaturised mid-infrared spectrometers and related software applications.

MIMIR builds on a key result from the Bromedir project, further developing portable FTIR spectrometer technology towards future handheld spectral analyser solutions.

The project aims to mature the technology further, improving the spectrometer optical core engine, system-level integration, calibration processes, and software interfaces.

MIMIR will focus on two application areas:
Soil health assessment
Human health diagnostics

The project will also support the path towards business readiness and the future commercialisation of handheld spectral analyser solutions.

Six projects, six different challenges, one shared direction: how photonics, sensors and AI can solve real-world problems.

GASPOF is building fibre-integrated gas sensors to detect leaks and emissions along existing telecom networks.

Bromedir develops compact infrared spectrometers to monitor agricultural products, hydrogen purity and fuel quality.

MultiLab integrates optical biosensors, microfluidics and machine learning into a lab-on-chip platform for rapid fever diagnostics and early warning of harmful algal blooms.

DAIry 4.0 applies AI and robotics to personalise milking and feeding for dairy cows.

Sofin Project designs adaptive photonic multi-sensors for monitoring high-voltage cables, telecommunication infrastructure and water networks.

Urbane-project promotes agroecology and One Health approaches in peri-urban farming across Africa.

Together, these projects show how CYRIC’s involvement extends across many more research and innovation activities, applying advanced technologies to deliver practical solutions for safer, smarter and more sustainable systems.
