Many manufacturers still rely on manual polishing after CNC machining, while part complexity and surface-quality expectations continue to rise.

In this interview, Alon Leuchter (Cimatron) explains how SuperFinish helps manufacturers get closer to producing finished parts directly from the CNC machine, reducing the need for manual post-processing and creating more controlled, consistent workflows.

That was the thread running through our conversation at MIC 2026, where Gürsel Demircali sat down with Alexander Krödel-Worbes (Kennametal Inc) and Alexander Freund (Autodesk) on what changes when cutting physics moves directly into the CAM workflow.

The idea behind SmartRoughing: instead of one conservative parameter set applied across a whole part, the software computes depth of cut, stepover and feed for each region, from cutting physics and Kennametal's lab-validated tooling data, inside the real limits of your machine and tool.

Finishing complex multi-patch NURBS surface models presents a fundamental trade-off: NURBS-based cycles struggle at patch boundaries and produce inconsistent surface quality, while mesh-based cycles are more robust but lack the surface accuracy required for precision finishing.
