In 1622, the Spanish galleon Nuestra Señora de Atocha sank in a hurricane off the coast of Florida, carrying roughly 40 tons of silver, gold, and gemstones from Spain's treasure fleet. 🌊
The wreck remained lost for more than 350 years. Treasure hunter Mel Fisher searched the seabed for 16 years before his team finally located it in 1985. ⚓
The recovery — silver bars, gold, coins, and gemstones worth an estimated 400 million dollars — remains the largest underwater treasure ever discovered. 💰
