Many of us share wider concerns that the developments in AI could overtake us and expose us to inflating fake information, manipulation, loosing our jobs, and other potential risks that we’re not adequately prepared for.

This is why we now take action to create an AI Safe Space for all humans who want to co-exist with AI safely.

The goal is to enable everyone, as a private person or an organization, to take a conscious choice about the extend to which we engage with advanced AI, and to be able to opt out safely, if we choose so.

As a first step, we build a CosyAI Suite of Safe AI Tools that meet commonly defined safety standards, based on a perspective of cooperating sincerely.

To ensure that this happens outside of the current “AI gold rush”, we create a cooperative framework for both organising ownership of the Cosy AI Suite, as well as defining and overseeing our common safety standards.

The CosyAI suite of Safe AI Tools will be open for app developers to contribute their tools, provided they meet these standards. Through the cooperative framework, we will set up a fair compensation scheme that enables contributors to earn a living, while balancing out potentially harmful incentives.

We share a concern that our governments might neither possess the technical knowledge nor sufficiently effective decision-making mechanisms for creating an adequate regulatory environment for AI, given the pace of its development and the economic power of the corporations involved in pushing it forward.
We’ve already seen with the challenge of climate change how our public institutions have failed for decades to take the necessary global action. Regulating AI in a responsible way is another urgent global challenge that requires balanced and well-conceived global responses.
We are, however, prepared to work with governments and public institutions in meaningful and constructive ways to encourage and support the development of balanced and effective regulatory frameworks for AI – in particular, by contributing a perspective of sincere human cooperation.

We want to achieve this by taking a cooperative approach, based on our common human strength to engage in cooperation based on trust and community values (Cosy actually stands for Cooperating sincerely).

With CosyAI, we invite everyone who shares concerns about recent developments in AI to build a safe digital space, in which we can collectively decide on how we want to use AI and how not.

For this, we will create a cooperative at EU level (SCE), with open membership to people from all around the world. It will allow us to take decisions together and have full common ownership of everything we create.

In the next steps, we will create further local cooperatives in different regions to strengthen global inclusiveness.
