35 years of Linux 🐧🎉

Linux has been at the heart of our work for decades. We help companies run it where it really matters: in business-critical data centers, across complex infrastructures and without being tied to a single vendor.

And because running Linux is one thing, but managing hundreds or thousands of systems throughout their lifecycle is another, we developed orcharhino.

With orcharhino, Linux environments across different distributions can be provisioned, configured, patched and managed centrally.
There’s also a nice anniversary connection for us: ATIX celebrated 30 years last year, orcharhino turns 10 this year, and Linux is now 35.

The open source connection goes even deeper: orcharhino builds on projects such as Foreman, Katello and Ansible, while our engineering work also finds its way back into the upstream communities.

So Linux hasn’t just shaped the IT world over the past 35 years. It has shaped ATIX, our work and the technology we build.
Happy 35th birthday, Linux! 🐧

🚀 orcharhino 7.10 is live!

This release brings a mix of performance improvements, stronger security, better auditability, and more automation.

Here are the highlights:

⚡ Performance enhancements – faster upgrade task cleanup and improved remote ex*****on UI performance.
🔐 UEFI Secure Boot for Proxmox – provision VMs with Secure Boot enabled.
🔎 More detailed audit logs – login, logout, and failed login attempts are now included in audited events.
📚 Documentation improvements – more practical guidance for everyday workflows, including host collections via activation keys.
🧩 Tech Preview: Ansible Director – assign roles to hosts or host groups and automatically trigger an initial Ansible run after provisioning.

And if you want to explore Ansible Director yourself: there’s now a Quick Start Guide covering everything from importing Ansible content and building an Ex*****on Environment to assigning roles and applying configurations. https://eu1.hubs.ly/H0xSqBY0

Most IT setups don’t struggle because of missing tools. They struggle because the same task is handled differently across the environment ☝️

Provisioning works one way, patching another, configurations live somewhere else, and over time, that inconsistency becomes the real operational overhead.

orcharhino addresses this by standardizing how systems are deployed, managed, and maintained, even across mixed Linux environments.

Instead of stitching workflows together, you get a consistent way to handle the full lifecycle, which makes changes easier, reduces errors, and saves time in day-to-day operations. That’s essentially what the “solutions” approach comes down to: not more tooling, but less variation in how things are done.

If you’re spending more time aligning processes than actually running systems, that’s the gap.

The recordings from VoxConf & Foreman Birthday 2026 are online! 🎥

Back in July, we hosted a full day of talks around Foreman, OpenVox, Puppet, Ansible, OpenTofu and more here in Munich.

Couldn’t join us, or want to watch one of the sessions again?

You can find the recordings here:

We’ve all seen it.

Automation that works in parts, but not end-to-end. The result is usually more manual effort than expected.

10 years of orcharhino - definitely a good reason to get everyone in front of the photo booth 😄

A lot has happened in those 10 years: countless releases, customer projects, new ideas, plenty of Linux and, most importantly, a lot of people who have been part of the journey.

Thanks to everyone who has contributed, worked with us, challenged us, supported us or simply joined us along the way 💚

Proof that 10 years of orcharhino come with some good stories!
