What will define logistics in 2026?

AI, automation, supply chain resilience, sustainability, workforce challenges, geopolitical uncertainty... the list is getting longer every year.

What stood out to us in this outlook is that many of the industry's biggest priorities are no longer future topics. They're already shaping decisions today.

The challenge is no longer identifying trends. It's figuring out which ones will create real value and where companies should focus their attention first.

An interesting read with perspectives on what's ahead for the global logistics and supply chain industry:

A lot of good conversations can happen in just one day.

Last week, Kerstin Meyer and Reza Shargh spent the day at Logistics & Automation in Hamburg, exchanging ideas with professionals from across the intralogistics and automation space.

The focus is no longer on technology as a future vision, but on how automation can solve real challenges in day-to-day operations today.

From mobile robotics to process optimization, there was plenty to talk about. But as is often the case, the most valuable part was the exchange itself. Hearing different perspectives, discussing common challenges, and connecting with people who are shaping the future of intralogistics.

Thank you to everyone who took the time to stop by and share their insights. We always leave these events with fresh ideas, new connections, and a better understanding of what is moving the industry forward.

More than 80% of global trade is transported by sea...

Without oceans, global logistics as we know it simply wouldn’t exist!

The ocean has always been our world's connection so now the question is how global industries can help protect it while continuing to rely on it.

More efficient routes.
Smarter planning.
Better coordination across supply chains.
Small operational improvements that can reduce unnecessary emissions and waste over time.

This is our industry's reminder that sustainability in logistics is closely tied to the future of maritime transport.

Sustainability isn't a single project or initiative. It's the result of thousands of choices made every day across supply chains, warehouses, ports, offices, and transport networks around the world.

The logistics industry plays a critical role in connecting people, businesses, and economies. That also means we have a responsibility to keep looking for smarter, more efficient ways to move goods while reducing our environmental impact.

The challenge is significant.

But so is the opportunity.

Next stop: Logistics & Automation.

We’ll be attending the all about intralogistics event and are looking forward to a day focused on what’s happening inside warehouses and operations right now.

From automation and system integration to the everyday challenges in intralogistics, these formats are always a good opportunity to step away from daily routines and exchange ideas with people who are dealing with the same topics.

Kerstin Meyer will be on site representing us and joining the conversations.

If you’re planning to attend as well, feel free to reach out or connect on site.

Logistics gets you used to a few things pretty quickly.

Early calls.
Different time zones.
And messages that start with “quick question” at very different times of the day.

World Day for Cultural Diversity is a good reminder that behind all of that are people working in very different ways and that’s actually what makes it work.

Some prefer quick calls.
Some prefer long messages.
Some go straight to the point.
Others take the scenic route.

And somehow, it all comes together.

Working across cultures means you learn to adapt, listen a bit closer, and sometimes just smile at the differences. It keeps things interesting — and often leads to better ideas than you would have had on your own.

Different backgrounds, same goal: keeping things moving.

You can usually tell pretty quickly if a system setup works.

Not by looking at it.
By using it.

Things load when they should.
Data is where you expect it.
You don’t have to think about the next step.

And most importantly, people stop talking about the system.

Because it just supports the work instead of interrupting it.

That’s often the real goal. Not more features, not more complexity. Just something that fits into daily operations.

We’ve put together a few examples of what that looks like in different scenarios:

Sometimes the best systems are the ones you barely notice.

You only really notice connections when they’re not there.

A system doesn’t sync.
Data is missing.
Someone is waiting on information that should’ve already arrived.

And suddenly, everything takes longer than it should.

Most of the time, though, it just works.
Updates appear where they need to be.
Teams across time zones stay aligned.
Processes keep moving without anyone thinking twice about it.

That quiet layer of communication between systems, platforms, and people is what keeps logistics running.

It’s not something you see.
But you definitely feel it when it’s missing.

Happy World Telecommunication and Information Society Day!

Things you hear in logistics almost every day:

“Quick question.”
“This should be a simple fix.”
“It worked yesterday.”
“Can you check this real quick?”
“We just need a small change.”

And somehow, these “small things” turn into full conversations.

Not because anyone is doing something wrong.
But because systems, processes, and expectations don’t always line up perfectly.

It’s part of the job.
But it also shows where things could be simpler.

And those are usually the moments where the best improvements start.

What’s a phrase you hear all the time?

Most delays in logistics don’t come from one big issue.

They come from small things adding up.

A system that doesn’t sync properly.
Information that lives in different places.
Manual workarounds that everyone got used to.

Individually, they don’t seem critical.
Together, they slow everything down.

What we see across many projects is that it’s rarely about adding more tools. It’s about making what’s already there work better together.

Fewer gaps.
Clearer processes.
Less back and forth.

If you’re curious how this can look in practice, we’ve outlined some of our approaches here:
