Dear Global Game Community,
We have a sad announcement to make:
After 15 years in this wonderful industry, we’re closing our doors mid 2024.
We wanted to use this moment to thank everyone that helped us along the way & give you a couple of statistics…we’re Germans after all :)
- We’ve had 18 commercial game releases in 15 stores selling more than 1 Mio copies
- Made games for 12 platforms and 3 console generations, including a launch title for Google Daydream & Beatbuddy WiiU as one of the first European Nintendo Indies
- Won more than 25 awards incl. German video game award 2014 - Best Youth Game
- Been working with more than 80 people from 11 nations, some of them now running their own studios or working in companies like Riot Games , Guerrilla Games, InnoGames & Triband
- Visited more than 80 conventions in 15 nations & gave more than 50 talks & lectures + participated in mentoring programs
- Co-founded the award winning Indie Arena Booth which helped more than 1k game dev studios to participate at gamescom over the last 10 years
- Founded the first Hamburg Co-Working Space Games Kontor & ran it for 4 years with 9 studios and 40 developers
- Became an official Unity partner studio - Certified Creator Network
- Contributed to more than 20 projects as external development partner
- Worked on renowned IP's such as Warhammer 40K, Oddworld, Gang Beasts, DDLC+
- had Intel, Google, NVIDIA, Alienware, Warner Music & Unity among our clients
Since last year we’ve been working with 25 highly skilled employees on multiple awesome projects, generating one of the best years in our company history. However the ongoing industry crisis has led to enormous financial pressure, so we have decided to close our doors in an organized manner and finish our last projects properly by mid of this year.
Perhaps we run into another miracle that saves THREAKS like in 2014, 2017 & 2021 but maybe this marks the end of an era. We’ve been lucky enough to experience all of the wonderful ups and terrible downs this great industry has to offer.
This journey wouldn’t possible without many great individuals that helped us along the way: Samuli Syvähuoko, Gunther Rehfeld, Steven Augustine, Martijn van Doorn, Michael Schade, Katja Reitemeyer, Jonas Antonsson, Torsten Oppermann, Werner Krassau, Heiko Milde, Robin Harries, Kim Stahn, Kelly Wallick, Jan Klose, John Graham, Zach Huntley, Dieter Marchsreiter, Christian Rauda, Dieter Schoeller David Helgason, Dave Hobbs, Austin Wintory, Maria Kameko, Peter de Jong, Tom Sadowski, Ole Schaper, Dakota Grabowski, Frank Zahn, Jamaine Arhin, to name but a few + the biggest shoutout to our team members, both old and new!
By helping build numerous industry careers and with the games we’ve shipped, we humbly accept immortality in this wonderful industry and are excited for the next “THREAKS-like” teams to come and shake-up this industry for the better.
