The L3CollisionDeformer from our L3Deformer package is a very powerful modeling tool when used with the static dynamics feature. This mode allows you to sculpt geometry interactively by transforming attached colliders. All collision deformations are maintained unless you go back to the specified start frame, where the geometry is reset to its original state.

Using this method you can build kind of a stackable sculpt history by animating colliders with Maya's standard animation features.

In the example shown below we applied a simple spiral motion to the collider to cut a screw thread.

This is a very powerful way of creating reproducable sculpt effects. You can use ANY polygon shape as collider and even morph colliders over time e.g. by using blendshapes.

Please note that the edge flow of the base mesh does not align with the screw's thread direction. Usually this creates jaggy artifacts. L3CollisionDeformer includes a very effective relax algorithm with lots of user controls to even out polygon spikes.

Finally! We just released L3Deformer V1.1 for Maya 2016!

This upgrade introduces a lot of new features requested by users including:

Collision Deformer
-Bulge computation added
-Velocity computation added
-Primitive sphere collision shape added
-Collision depth can now be limited
-Post relax collision can now be turned off

Texture Deformer
-UV based texture sampling added to support 2D textures

General
-Threading can now be controlled per node
-Several UI updates and cleanup

L3Deformer V1.1.0 for Maya 2016 is taking shape. This release will add new features and UI enhancements.

L3CollisionDeformer now supports bulging, dynamics have been extended with velocity computation and relaxing now has even more controls.

Bulging is computed during relax iterations and thus can be enabled or disabled interactively after the collision pass has been computed.

L3Library V1.3.3 for Maya 2011 - 2015 Released

L3Library is now available for Maya 2015 Windows.

V1.3.3 introduces a new UV projection node that creates mesh UVs from a perspective camera. We also added a function to copy shader assignments from a source mesh to multiple identical target meshes.

We implemented a workaround to handle the floating shelf docking problem introduced with Maya 2014. The right mouse button popup menu now lets you choose the dock region which instantly fixes the resize issue. The bug causing this issue has been fixed by Autodesk in Maya 2015.

This will most likely be the last L3Library release that supports Maya 2011.

Our deformation toolkit L3Deformer V1.0.2 is now available for Maya 2014 Windows.

With this release we have cut prices by 25%!

L3Deformer for Maya 2011, 2012, 2013 and 2013.5 is now available at 99€. L3Deformer for Maya 2014 costs 109€.

Additional licenses are available at a flat discount of ~30%. License upgrades from any Maya version to another are available at 15€.

All prices plus taxes where applicable.

L3Library is now available for Maya 2014.

The V1.3.2 update includes a new L3Locator node that draws various primitive shapes in Maya's modeling view. It also comes with a new file finder tool that can e.g. be used to search a specific path for missing texture files.
