The Management Cockpit provides a comprehensive overview of sales and profit performance.
Starting with an overview of the most essential KPIs, the user can quickly get orientation check the most recent performance.
The navigation on the left side provides access to more detailed analyses on sales, profit and profit margin as well as additional analyses like a scenario planning.

To measure and compare the delay of the virus spread per country one option is look at the number of confirmed cases per million inhabitants. With a high number of confirmed cases, Italy is used as a base country for the relative comparison.
After having reached 50 confirmed cases, Germany started with a delay of 7 days vs. Italy. The analysis shows that Germany increased the “delay” to 20 days. In contrast the US already had a “delay” of 17 days vs. Italy but lost 5 days to reach its current “delay” of 11 days.
Please note, the number of confirmed cases tells only parts of the story. It does not give any indication about other influencers, like the number of conducted tests, varying starting dates of social distancing measures & respective enforcement.
For example, a higher number of conducted tests has a higher probability of resulting in higher number of confirmed cases what would then impact the “delay”. Therefore, this analysis is only a hypothesis that needs further analyses before it can be confirmed.

– Pandemic evolution: Though the USA are clearly the country with the highest number of confirmed cases, European countries are still in the lead by the number of confirmed cases per million inhabitants

As an animation, the illustration shows the development of the number of confirmed cases over time for selected countries. The left bar chart shows the country ranking by total number of confirmed cases – here the USA is clearly at the top. The right bar chart shows the country ranking by total number of confirmed cases per million inhabitants. This relative comparison shows that European countries Spain, Italy, Belgium, France and Germany are still ahead of the US.
Please note that there might be several reasons for differences in measured number of confirmed cases. Drivers can be an actual increase but might also be intensified testing as well as other influencers and country specific differences.

– Globally we have reached >1 million confirmed cases. While in the USA cases double every 2nd day, in large EU countries cases double every third day

The illustration shows the number of confirmed cases over time for selected countries. By comparing the individual country lines to the dotted reference lines with different doubling speeds (every day, every 2nd day, every 3rd day), it becomes clear if the growth in country is accelerating or slowing down.
A key insight from the data is that currently confirmed cases in the USA double every 2nd day while in large EU countries cases double every 3rd day.
Overall, the data tells, that growth rates of selected countries are slowing down over time, but the number of measured infections is still on a (fast) rise. However, please note that there might be several reasons for an increase in measured infections. Drivers can be an actual increase but might also be intensified testing as well as other influencers and country specific differences.

To better understand the illustration please note: The number of confirmed cases is shown on a logarithmic scale, i.e. moving a set distance along the y-axis means the number of confirmed cases has been multiplied by 10 (moving from 100 to 1,000 to 10,000 etc.). In order to compare countries, the time dimension on the x-axis is measured in days since each respective country has reached a total of 100 confirmed cases.

When looking at the data, the comparison of Germany vs. Italy with respect to confirmed cases per million inhabitants shows an “increasing delay” in days. In general, measures like social distancing are beneficial for such delays. However, the number of confirmed cases tells only parts of the story. It does not give any indication about other influencers, like the number of conducted tests, varying starting dates of social distancing measures & respective enforcement.
For example, a higher number of conducted tests has a higher probability of resulting in higher number of confirmed cases. So, though it might suggest corona measures are working, it cannot prove it without doubts based on the data at hand.
Therefore, please be aware: Not all insights from data are valuable. Additional data & analyses might be needed before hypotheses can be confirmed.

However, there is a difference in timing: For example, when comparing the confirmed infections per million inhabitants between Germany and Italy, we see a delay of about 9 days. Accordingly, harsh measures to prevent new infections still seem reasonable.
