Do you get simply more purchase events when you spend more on your ads? And, how important are the ad parameters?

We were interested in understanding how ad spend and purchasing events correlate. We thought that taking ROAS would bias this relationship with order value variations.

Therefore, we took an account and plotted ad spend against purchase counts. The client is a DTC fashion brand with AOVs around 45$.

In the analysis we found only a moderate positive correlation. Though, we expected a much higher correlation and concluded that the ad parameters play a significant role for the ad efficiency.

We at IconicC were interested in understanding how Facebook Instagram paid ads perform over time.

In contrast to the traditional ROAS KPI, we looked at the ad spend per purchase count and how it develops over the run-time of the individual ads. This seemed more in line with the KPI logic of effort-to-event such as CPM, CPC etc.

Our initial expectation was that the ads would stabilize over time. However, only a few ads performed along that pattern for the data set selected. Most ads did not stabilize. Particularly disappointing was that the cumulative ad spend per purchase did not really decrease over time for most ads.

We are currently developing a feature that helps ad performance tracking using trends in ad performance.
