Denmark is getting a new layer of air defence - Systematic and Thales are building it together.

Today at Industry Days, Denmark's largest defence industry event, the two companies announced their partnership.

Systematic is building the planning tool - the software that lets operators plan, task and monitor ground-based air defence operations. It's built on SitaWare Headquarters and IRIS and connects with Thales' SAMP/T NG missile defence system, as well as with existing Danish defence systems.

Thales builds the missile defence system itself. Combined, Denmark's air defence gets a single, connected picture and new, relevant capabilities.

“Our collaboration with Systematic ensures that Denmark benefits from a sovereign, interoperable system that leverages the best of European innovation,” says Raphaël Desi, Integrated Airspace Protection Systems, Thales.

On the European perspective of the partnership, Nikolaj Bramsen, CEO of Systematic, adds:
"This partnership strengthens European readiness and sovereignty: developed in Europe, with armed forces fully in control of their own systems and data. It is a clear stepping stone towards greater European strategic autonomy in the critical domain of integrated air and missile defence.”

Danish Minister of Defence Jeppe Bruus, and Per Pugholm, Commander of The Danish Ministry of Defence Acquisition and Logistics Organisation, attended the announcement, along with other senior figures from across the Danish defence establishment.

Turns out, the precision behind mission-critical software comes in handy when a competition begins. 🏆⚽

Thanks to our Employees Club, the past few months gave us the chance to gather and go all in on the things we love: football, running, cycling, karting, and step competitions.

The summary so far: one football team, 20 cyclists, 30 kart racers, 21 marathon runners, 2,474,649 steps and over 400 km cycled.

Knowing that every goal scored and every km pedalled helped give children better access to education, through our work with The Social Incubator and Hope and Homes for Children, made it easier to push a little harder. 🏫

"Crossing the finish line was one thing. But doing it alongside my colleagues, all of us cheering each other on, is what made it memorable," says our colleague Crenguta, a marathon runner.

We build software that people rely on in the most critical moments. That work is easier, and better, when it comes from people who are connected and count on each other. And with colleagues bringing so many different passions to the table, there's always something new to join, try, or cheer for. 🤝

An intelligence report flags enemy movement. The chief of operations needs an assessment - within minutes, not hours.

Today, that might mean calling the terrain analyst, waiting on the intelligence officer, checking in with the logistics planner.

With agentic AI, each of those specialists becomes an agent. Give the system a task and it identifies, independently, which agents to query, what data to pull, and how to assemble it into a single assessment.

Henrik Sommer, Director at Systematic and former Brigadier General in the Royal Danish Army, explains how multiple AI agents will soon collaborate to complete complex tasks with minimal human direction, all while keeping transparency intact through established military processes.

AI is already embedded across our defence portfolio - from AI-assisted decision support to machine learning for anomaly detection and large language model support in our command-and-control systems.

Agentic AI is emerging as a defining capability for tomorrow's militaries. Systematic is already building it.

When our users ask for something, we listen. They are, after all, our best field experts.

That is also reflected in the latest update to SitaWare, our command-and-control software used by NATO and +50 countries. For instance, SitaWare now includes an updated AI assistant that lets analysts ask questions in plain language and get answers pulled straight from their own data - faster and more accurate than digging through documents under pressure.

It also features something that the SitaWare user community has been asking for consistently: the new Briefing Application. Instead of exporting data to external tools to build a briefing, they can now do it inside the same secure environment they already work in, presenting directly from the operational picture.

In 2022, Elon Musk refused to activate his Starlink satellite internet service over the Ukrainian coast - cutting short a planned military strike on the Russian fleet.

One man. One satellite. A direct military consequence for a country at war.

That is what the absence of digital sovereignty looks like in practice. And it is the starting point for Michael Holm, founder and chair of Systematic, in a new opinion piece in Danish news media Altinget.

Europe cannot legislate its way to sovereignty. It has to be practised.

That means demanding open standards. Buying European solutions at scale - not pilots, not proof-of-concepts. And making sovereignty a condition for public procurement of critical infrastructure.

The good news? We already have a working model. NATO's approach to command-and-control defence software shows that democracies can share intelligence and coordinate across borders without surrendering control to any single actor.

When eight municipalities in the greater Copenhagen area put their digital care system out to tender, four vendors competed for the contract – and Systematic won! 🤸‍♂️🎉

Our electronic care record Columna Cura won on quality. The eight municipalities, Albertslund, Allerød, Dragør, Frederikssund, Glostrup, Høje-Taastrup, Rødovre, and Tårnby, cover 300,000 residents and have chosen to expand their use of Columna Cura. The system is used by social and healthcare staff to document, plan, and coordinate care for residents across home care and social services.

As Kenneth Møller Johansen, Secretary General at the Greater Copenhagen Digitalisation Association (DSD), who led the procurement process, explains:

"Systematic won the tender for the electronic care record because they will deliver the best quality for the price. It is clear to us that they offer a system that gives our healthcare staff an easy and user-friendly tool that meets our needs for smoothly planning, documenting, and getting an overview of daily tasks, so our staff can spend less time at the screen and more time with residents."

The contract includes AI-powered features: automated route planning and, in the near future, speech recognition and AI summarisation to help staff document faster, stay up to date on each resident's situation, and spend more time where it matters most.

What does it take to build AI that works for NATO?

It has to run inside the systems Allied forces already operate. It has to keep data within NATO's own infrastructure. And it has to support the kind of decisions that matter on the battlefield - not alongside the command system, but inside it.

Earlier this month, we demonstrated exactly that to the senior military representatives of NATO member nations in Brussels.

Vice Admiral Frank Trojahn, Denmark's Military Representative to NATO, put it well: "The ability to quickly translate data into actionable decision-making can be decisive for the outcome of an operation. What Systematic has developed shows that AI can now help in an unprecedented way - directly in the system our forces already are using. This is an important development for NATO’s operational capabilities."

For Henrik Sommer, Director of Defence at Systematic and former Brigadier General, presenting to an audience of peers made the day stand out: "They ask the right questions - and they understand immediately why it matters.”
