Temporary access can become a permanent security gap.

A vendor gets administrator access to fix a production issue. The work is completed, the ticket is closed, and everyone moves on.

But what if that access is never removed.

Before granting privileged access to a vendor or contractor, check five things:
- Named account: Can you identify who is using it?
- Limited permissions: Does the account have only the access required?
- Expiry time: Is access set to expire automatically?
- Activity logs: Can you review what was accessed or changed?
- Revocation: Is someone responsible for confirming access has been removed?

Closing a support ticket doesn't close an account's permissions.

Make access removal part of the process, not a reminder someone might forget.

Save this checklist for your next vendor access request.

What happens when a service your business depends on suddenly becomes unavailable?

On 20 October, a Google Cloud outage disrupted services at several UK banks and other organisations. The incident was attributed to a power event, not a confirmed cyberattack.

This is a reminder of third-party dependency risk. Your business can have secure internal systems and still face disruption when a critical cloud platform or external provider goes offline.

To reduce the impact:
- Identify your most critical external providers.
- Understand which business operations depend on them.
- Establish alternative procedures for essential services.
- Test your business continuity and recovery plans.

You cannot prevent every provider outage, but you can prepare for its consequences.

Does your business continuity plan account for the failure of a critical external service?

Local AI doesn't automatically mean secure AI.

On 18 October 2026, we're highlighting a key consideration for businesses exploring Dell Deskside Agentic AI and other autonomous AI workflows.

AI agents can interact with applications, access information and carry out multi-step tasks. Without the right safeguards, those capabilities can create risks for sensitive business data and connected systems.

What should organisations prioritise?
🔹 Control permissions: Give each agent only the access it needs.
🔹 Protect business data: Restrict access to sensitive files and information.
🔹 Monitor activity: Keep visibility into agent actions and connected tools.
🔹 Maintain human oversight: Review high-impact actions before they happen.

For UAE businesses, secure AI adoption means balancing automation with accountability. Local ex*****on can provide greater control over the environment, but access management, monitoring and governance remain essential.

The takeaway: Give AI room to work, not unlimited authority.

How is your organisation preparing for AI-agent security?

A cyberattack doesn't have to steal customer data to cause serious business damage.

On 12 October, reports described a cyberattack affecting supermarket refrigeration systems in France. The incident highlighted how connected equipment can become a target, with consequences that extend beyond IT systems.

For businesses operating connected equipment, this is a reminder that cybersecurity also needs to protect physical operations.

Organisations should review remote access to operational technology, monitor unexpected changes to equipment settings, keep control systems updated and separate operational networks from corporate IT where appropriate.

When connected equipment is part of your business, its security is part of your business continuity plan.

AI agents are getting access to the same systems employees use: email, databases, APIs and business applications.

That creates a security question many organizations haven't fully addressed yet:
What identity does an autonomous agent use when it acts?

A shared service account can make attribution and access control difficult. Broad permissions create another problem: the agent may be able to do far more than the task requires.

As AI moves from answering questions to taking actions, agent identity needs to become part of the security architecture.

Every agent should have a clear identity, limited permissions and an activity trail.
That is how autonomous access becomes accountable.

Your FortiMail appliance may need attention right now.

CVE-2026-104286 is a critical FortiMail path-traversal vulnerability with a CVSS score of 9.8.

The vulnerability can allow an unauthenticated attacker to write arbitrary files to the underlying FortiMail system through crafted HTTP/HTTPS requests.

More importantly, exploitation is already active and the vulnerability has been added to CISA's Known Exploited Vulnerabilities catalog.

Affected releases include:
- 7.2.0–7.2.9
- 7.4.0–7.4.8
- 7.6.0–7.6.6
- 8.0.0–8.0.1

If your organization uses an affected FortiMail release, don't limit the review to version checking.

Check whether the appliance was exposed, review activity for signs of exploitation or unauthorized changes, look for indicators of compromise, and apply the current vendor remediation.

A critical CVE tells you the potential severity. Active exploitation tells you the risk needs immediate attention.

A cyberattack can do more than disrupt hospital systems. It can delay patient care.

In June 2024, a ransomware attack on Synnovis, an NHS pathology services provider, disrupted healthcare services in London.

More than 11,000 outpatient and elective procedure appointments were delayed.

This incident demonstrates how cybersecurity failures can affect real healthcare operations and patients.

Healthcare organizations need to consider not only data protection but also service continuity, supplier security, and incident preparedness.

Cybersecurity in healthcare is also about protecting patient care.

Does deleting a file mean it's gone forever?

Not necessarily.

When you delete a file, your computer may only mark its storage space as available. The actual data can remain until it is overwritten.

That's why digital forensic investigators can sometimes recover deleted files.

However, recovery depends on the device and its settings. SSDs, for example, use features such as TRIM that can make recovery difficult.

Deleting a file and permanently erasing its data are not always the same thing.

Would you assume a deleted file is permanently gone?

You Can't Secure What You Don't Know Exists

Having more security tools does not automatically mean having complete visibility.

An organisation can have a firewall, EDR, SIEM, vulnerability scanner and regular pe*******on tests while an exposed asset remains outside their coverage.

It could be:
- A forgotten subdomain or server
- A newly deployed cloud resource
- An unmanaged device
- A third-party connection
- An application that was never added to the security inventory

The problem is not always the lack of another security tool. Sometimes, the real problem is not knowing what is there in the first place.

Before asking whether your security controls are working, ask: Do you know everything that needs to be protected?

An attack can be blocked and still leave you with a problem.

Before the malicious request was stopped, an attacker may have already discovered exposed endpoints, tested authentication and learned how your application responds.

Good security visibility means understanding the activity leading up to an attack, not just the final blocked event.

Would your security team see the reconnaissance?
