Here are some points mentioned by Eng. Hossam:
“first of all I appreciate very much the efforts brought by UNECA to develop this report and thank in person Jean Paul Adam and Mactar Sec and the team as well as the lead consultant Jimson Olufeye.
I have 3 points to highlight; first and most important I appreciate very much the efforts done to identify, collect and aggregate the data of Internet Pe*******on, Cybersecurity Maturity and GDP for 40 African nations. That is a great effort indeed and as mentioned by Mactar that would facilitate having our own indicators
Second, I just wish to highlight that the correlation between the GDP and the IP and cybersecurity while positive but not very strong and most important it doesn’t indicate the cause and effect so we cannot claim that more internet pe*******on resulted in stronger GDP per capita or that stronger GDP per capita involved investing further in the IP and cyber security. Further study and indicators are required to decide on that
Third and final point; as we are in the 4IR we need to check the GDP outcome and correlation at the economy sub-sector level (manufacturing, agriculture, tourism, etc.…) so we can identify further the economic impact of the 4IR and we need to further prepare required regulations and entitlements.
My final recommendation, we need to build on this baseline report and conduct further research to serve African decision-making in relation to internet pe*******on, cybersecurity, and 4IR
