Could the IP camera protecting you become a weakness in your network?
Internet-connected security cameras have become an essential part of homes, offices, and many business environments.
But there is one aspect that is often overlooked:
Every connected device is part of the attack surface.
An IP camera can become a target when it relies on default credentials, outdated firmware, or connectivity services that are not actually required.
The solution does not always require complex measures.
Start with the fundamentals:
Change default credentials.
Keep firmware updated.
Disable unnecessary services and features.
And isolate cameras and IoT devices from networks containing sensitive systems and data.
Most importantly, don't treat the camera as an isolated device.
Treat it as part of your overall cybersecurity architecture.
Because securing a network is not only about controlling what gets in
it's also about knowing what is connected and how it can be accessed.
