We’re excited to share a small but unique project we worked on—“Manufactory” by Parametr (a brand of P*K, Commercial Real Estate). Parametr is one of our long-standing and valued partners, and we’re always thrilled to take on their challenges.
For this project, we were tasked with illustrating the building’s characteristics and the types of production that could be accommodated, using a vertical cross-section. Our concept included separate views for the first and second floors.
The unique twist? The renders had to be in black and white.
As you know, most renders are created in color. We naturally perceive the world in color, and colored visuals provide a richer, more vivid description—both of the overall scene and individual details. While we could talk at length about the power of color, this time, the challenge was different, and we embraced it wholeheartedly.
For the first floor, we chose to depict a sewing workshop, a tailoring studio, and a clothing store. On the second floor, we created a visual of a storage area (warehouse). The black-and-white palette allowed us to highlight the key elements of the scene and their functionality without the distractions of bright objects, colorful surroundings, or background details. The absence of color shifts the focus to the essentials in a way that a vibrant palette cannot.
Black-and-white tones helped us emphasize the lines, shapes, textures, and the contrast between light and dark, creating a striking composition.
Monochrome imagery often feels more timeless and serious. The deep blacks, pure whites, and a range of gray tones naturally draw the viewer’s attention, allowing them to see familiar objects in a new light. These renders revealed a pure, authentic beauty that is hard to replicate with color.
As the saying goes, “everything is learned in comparison,” and so we decided to create color versions of these renders as well.
Which approach speaks to you more—black-and-white or color?
