The 10th South Summit in Madrid was a totally different kind of event. A grown-up global conference, it emphasized Spain’s commitment to the digitalization of public life and state development, which became a thing during the pandemic. It’s worth noting that South Summit was born in response to the economic crisis (so-called great recession)—and now it plays a crucial role in changing Spain’s digital landscape.

If asked, what the South Summit is all about, we’ll answer the quality of life. Human-centered entrepreneurship was the keynote of the whole event: the sections, the competitions, and the networking sessions. Putting people before technology in a tech business is an idea we can only agree with.

South Summit is one of the key startup venues in Europe and a must-attend-to event for investors and companies that consider entering South European or Latin American markets. 10 unicorns out of 10. Will be here next year.

The best thing about global startup events is the opportunity to meet people from different (business) cultures that search for and find unique approaches to emerging markets. This year we got a chance to visit EMERGE 2022, the leading startup conference in the New East, which took place in Yerevan, Armenia.

The conference brought speakers and prospective startups: from deep tech and quantum computing to consumer apps and gaming. One could walk along the startup valley, take part in a pitch deck competition, participate in mentor sessions, and meet investors, tech journalists, and fellow entrepreneurs. EMERGE offered great opportunities to gain insights, build partnerships, and learn from a great community.

It’s worth noting that EMERGE exceeded all expectations. A two-day official program was complemented by ten-day-long unofficial networking, which allowed meeting dozens of tech entrepreneurs. A special kudos goes to moderators, namely Mike Butcher, who did a great job facilitating official and unofficial talks.

EMERGE 2022 in numbers: 3000 attendees from 61 countries, 82 speakers, and 270 startups.
