Is the Pink Moon actually pink? 🌸🌕

April’s Full Moon is called the Pink Moon, but the name does not mean the Moon turns pink in the sky. It comes from seasonal signs of early spring, especially the bloom of pink phlox in parts of North America.

So the Pink Moon will probably look like a normal full moon, though it can still appear warmer or more golden near moonrise depending on your local sky conditions.

The March Full Moon is known as the Worm Moon 🪱🌱🌕

It’s tied to the seasonal shift. In many places, the soil begins to thaw and early signs of life return after winter’s pause. The name reflects that quiet change happening at ground level.

This Full Moon rises as the days grow longer and the evenings feel less sharp. It’s a subtle but real turning point in the sky and on Earth.

March’s Full Worm Moon 🪱 peaks on March 3, 2026. This is also the date of a total lunar eclipse 🩸, when Earth’s shadow completely covers the Moon and casts it in a deep red hue. It is going to be a rare blood moon visible wherever the Moon is above the horizon that night.

📆 It’s the first total lunar eclipse of 2026 and the last until late 2028.

Later in the month the Moon cycles through its phases:
🌗 Last Quarter around March 11
🌑 New Moon on March 19
🌓 First Quarter on March 25 as the Moon grows toward the next Full.

March also brings the equinox around March 20, marking the start of spring in the Northern Hemisphere.

A Total Lunar Eclipse is coming this March 🌕🌑

Between March 2 and 3, Earth will move between the Sun and the Full Moon, and its shadow will slowly slide across the Moon. When the Moon is fully inside Earth’s shadow (totality), it can turn a deep red or copper color because Earth’s atmosphere bends and filters sunlight into the shadow. That’s why we call it a “Blood Moon” 🩸

Eclipse visibility depends on where you are (the Moon has to be above your horizon), so your timing and “best moment” can look totally different from someone else’s. You can easily check your visibility and local timings in the Moonlitt app.

Photo tips:
• Bring a tripod. Totality is much darker than a normal Full Moon.
• If you can, use a long lens (or a tight phone zoom) for close-ups.
• Try a few exposures: brighter during partial phases, darker during totality.
• Want a more cinematic shot? Include a tree, building, or skyline for scale.

A Blood Moon is happening on March 3, 2026 🌕🩸

A Blood Moon happens during a total lunar eclipse, when the Moon passes fully into Earth’s umbra and can turn a deep reddish‑orange during totality. This time, totality lasts about 58 minutes in the best‑placed regions, which is slightly above the average duration for a total lunar eclipse!

Where you are matters a lot (the Moon needs to be above your horizon), and this eclipse especially favors western North America, East and Southeast Asia, Australia, New Zealand, and the broader Asia‑Pacific region.

Chinese New Year follows a lunisolar calendar, meaning it ties lunar months to the seasons. That’s why the date moves every year on the Gregorian calendar. The rule is simple: it begins on the second New Moon after the winter solstice, which lands today in 2026.

But the celebration doesn’t stop today! It traditionally carries on until the first Full Moon with the Lantern Festival, happening this year on March 3 🏮🌕

The 2026 Annular Solar Eclipse is happening today ☀️🌑

This is the “ring of fire” type: the Moon passes in front of the Sun but doesn’t fully cover it, so a bright ring of sunlight stays visible around the Moon. The full ring appears only along a narrow path, so your location matters a lot.

If you’re in the visibility area, watch safely: use certified solar viewing glasses or a proper solar filter. Never look directly at the Sun without protection.
