Covid19 - AlertInternet Service Advisory

Before the start of this first full week of remote working and remote studying throughout Spain, Operators advise a rational and responsible use of telecommunication networks to deal with the increase of traffic.

Prioritize internet access for remote work or remote study and shifting the use of video streaming or gaming to the hours of least traffic to help maintain the quality of service in this new stage of isolation nationwide.

IP networks are experiencing increases in traffic of around 40%, while the use of mobile voice increases by 50% and 25% in the case of data. Likewise, the traffic of instant messaging tools such as Whatsapp has multiplied by 5 in recent days.

The increased use of teleworking has also been reflected in the network: the traffic of remote work tools such as Skype and Webex has multiplied by 4.

The network operators - Movistar, Orange, Vodafone, Grupo Masmovil, Grupo Euskaltel and Tiekom Group have critical teams that ensure that the network works 24 hours a day. March 15, 2020 - Telecommunications networks, both landline and mobile, have been experiencing a traffic explosion in recent days as a consequence of the expansion of the Covid19 and the safety measure and recommendations derived from it.

For these reasons, together with the operators, we want to share with our clients some recommendations:

Download only documents or files that you really need. If you must, do it at night during off-peak hours (between 2-4pm and 8pm-8am)

Whenever possible, do not send heavy files - videos, ppts…, Send link or routes to where they are stored. And, if it is essential to send them, compress them before or decrease the format. (ppt to pdf for example)

Use collaboration tools like Teams or Slack, and if you can, don’t always do it with video.

Avoid mass emails.

Use the landline instead of mobile to make calls when possible.

And, above all, optimize traffic for what you really need: mail, remote work, conferences, school and education applications, access to information … and the tools of leisure, video, games streaming, live video playback… reserve them for off-peak hours.

Spain is the first European country and the third in the world in terms of fiber optic infrastructure and it also has one of the best mobile networks in Europe. It is precisely this network, built by the operators with effort and investments that is allowing the optimal functioning of digital communications, thus making isolation more bearable for professional and personal use. Rational and responsible use of the networks will allow us all, service providers, companies and individuals, to ensure that we will have quality communication in a sustainable way over time, in a scenario of intensification of work and remote schooling that can last several weeks.

Apple rumoured to debut......

In June, Apple will host its latest Worldwide Developers Conference, where it will undoubtedly unveil the next versions of iOS, macOS, and other platforms.

And while the event hasn’t always meant new hardware gets unveiled, it isn’t impossible, either. And according to KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, it is “likely” that we will see two new additions to the hardware family at WWDC 2017: The oft-rumored 10.5-inch iPad Pro and the Siri-empowered smart speaker. Most of the new analyst report is echoing previous estimations by Kuo himself, but that only means he’s growing more confident that these things will actually happen.

Kuo reiterates that there is a “50% chance” that we see the new smart speaker at WWDC 2017, which was a percentage he tossed out at the beginning of this month. Kuo believes Apple will debut the smart speaker, which is expected to boast “premium audio quality” and a price tag that’s higher than Amazon’s Echo, alongside announcing new home AI features. Kuo also believes there will be a “touch panel” on the smart speaker, a bit of a debated feature at this point.

Meanwhile, Kuo believes there’s a “70 percent chance” that Apple announces a 10.5-inch iPad Pro at WWDC 2017. This tablet is said to feature an all-new design, and could be similar to the design Apple will go with for the iPhone 8 due to its minimal bezels. Kuo believes the new iPad Pro will have a bigger display than the 9.7-inch iPad Pro, but it will fit in a similarly-sized chassis.

iPhone News

After months of refusing to admit they had a problem, Apple is finally offering customers a fix for Touch Disease. The issue—which affects iPhone 6 and (predominantly) 6 Pluses—often manifests as a gray flickering bar and touch screen responsiveness problems. Eventually, the screen loses functionality all together. Today, Apple announced it is offering owners of iPhone 6 Pluses a $149 option for Touch Disease-affected phones.

Since the problem was reported back in August, there has been growing public pressure for Apple to address the widespread problem. Repair technicians we spoke to attributed the problem to a structural design flaw in the wide, thin phones. Stress on the phone causes the chips governing touch functionality to eventually lose connection with the motherboard.

While Apple is finally admitting the problem, they aren’t calling it Touch Disease. Instead they are describing it as “display flickering or Multi-Touch issues.” And they aren’t attributing it to a manufacturing defect. Instead, Apple says Touch Disease occurs after the phone has been “dropped multiple times on a hard surface.”

At an event at its Cupertino, Calif., headquarters yesterday, Apple introduced three new MacBook Pro models, including high-end versions of its 13-inch and 15-inch systems that come with the Touch Bar screen. The company also unveiled a new lower-cost 13-inch MacBook Pro, which doesn't have the Touch Bar, as a replacement device for MacBook Air users.

Apple didn't refresh the lower-cost MacBook Air line, and said its 11-inch MacBook Air would now only be available to education customers.
