Towards the end of last year, Pricetap took part in the Google for Startups pre-accelerator CEE programme.
34 unicorns have come out of Central and Eastern European countries, the bulk of which came in the last five years. While Estonia invests a lot of VC funding per capita (the most in Europe), a third of CEE unicorns are bootstrapped compared to around 7% in the rest of Europe (Dealroom).
With the help of our Estonian advisors, we have been enjoying expanding our networks there. And thanks to this Google programme, it was great to have a chance to reach out even further into the CEE region and be inspired by some of what and who is happening there.
Funding seeks opportunity and I experienced plenty of world-class knowledge and opportunity-making spirit, so believe there will be some levelling off of funding access in the years to come. At least transnational funds at the seed level, but Estonia is a shining example of what can happen when founders invest back into the grassroots of their ecosystems.
As to the programme, it was full of many long days but it was a great privilege to have (amongst other things) our startup knowledge expanded to another level of detail, be pushed to refine our messaging, and go deeper on OKRs.
