Today is the 4^th of June, the birthday of C.G.E.Mannerheim, Marshal of Finland, it is also known as the Flag Day of the Finnish Defence Forces.
This makes the day special is that we have just received a donation of two almost pristine BC 611s or known as Käsi-Kaisa in Finland. These
two babies were used previously by the Finnish armed forces.
The intention is to overhaul the twins and use them annually for radio amateur communication activities during this special day and also the Finnish Independence Day.
The BC611, SCR-536, “Handie Talkie” is also known in Finnish as VRKWA and “Kaisa”. They were originally manufactured by Galvin Manufacturing to soon be Motorola Solutions It is a famous handheld radio that was used in World War II e.g. the D-day landing in Normandy.
This battery-powered rig used AM modulation, the Frequency range was between 3.5 and 6 MHz, depending on the used crystals and coil set. Kaisa´s transmission power was 0.36 W and the weight with batteries was 2.4 kilograms.
