Since 2007, Artachment Art Space Basel has been showing changing exhibitions as well as permanent installations of contemporary art. The venue is a small, eight-square-meter former customs house (1944) in the Rheinhafen area (Dreiländereck/tri-border area FR/DE/CH) in Basel's neighborhood Kleinhüningen. The non-profit project was founded by the Basel-based artist Raphael Bottazzini. Having invited
external curators in the past, Bottazzini once again took on the project’s curatorship in 2018. During his many years of involvement with the former customs house, Bottazini developed a new perspective on Artachment Art Space Basel, which today can be understood as a work of art itself. In a performative act, the renowned Swiss artist Roman Signer created the site-specific ceiling painting Platz ist in der kleinsten Hütte. Zum Fliegen natürlich (There is space in the smallest of huts. For flying, of course (2018) for Artachment Art Space Basel. From 2022, Roman Signer's work will be on permanent display. Thus, Artachment owns the first work by Roman Signer in Basel, which is accessible at any time in the public space. Outside, Artachment Art Space Basel shows the permanent light installation Schein (Appearance) by the artist duo THYLACINE - Mischa Düblin and Fabian Unold. The installation runs daily from 6 pm to 5 am with rhythmic interruptions. Instagram: . Two exhibition series characterize the curatorial work of Artachment Art Space Basel. Ich mag Salz presents solo exhibitions on socio-political themes whereas the Peter Pan Project creates a dialogue between established artists and art students. Artachment Art Space Basel celebrates its history and all previous exhibitions and artists from over 12 years in a high-quality anniversary publication with over 700 pages. The collection of the many projects with artists, curators and other art institutions is at the same time a thank you to all parties involved. As a tangible archive, the book is a sustainable presentation of Artachment Art Space Basel impacting its present and its future. The book Es könnte ein Jubiläum sein. History of Artachment Art Space Basel is published in an edition of three copies. The limited edition and the elaborate design by SUAN Conceptual Design underline the understanding of the publication as an independent work of art by Raphael Bottazzini. One copy of the book will be available for sale through STAMPA gallery Basel. To make it accessible to the public, another copy will be handed to the State Archives of Basel-Stadt. The third copy will be given to the book's graphic designer, Susanne Hartmann of SUAN Conceptual Design. A PDF of the book will be available on the website (www.artachment.com). Together with the book, Artachment Art Space Basel publishes a high-quality booklet accompanying the exhibition series "Peter Pan Project". It documents and expands on the permanent works developed by Roman Signer and THYLACINE - Mischa Düblin and Fabian Unold at Artachment Art Space Basel.
