A friend once told me, “What difference does it make if it’s created by AI? If people enjoy it, laugh at it, or find it entertaining, isn’t that all that matters?”

And I get that. There isn’t anything inherently wrong with AI creating things that are funny, creative, or genuinely useful.

But I think there’s a bigger issue.
The more we normalize AI-generated content without questioning it, the more we train ourselves to stop telling the difference between what’s real and what’s synthetic. At first, it seems harmless. Eventually, that habit could make us far more vulnerable.

We’re already seeing AI used to clone faces and voices, impersonate people, manipulate families, scam loved ones, and extort money. As this technology gets better, distinguishing reality from fabrication won’t just be an interesting skill, it will be a necessity.

AI itself isn’t the enemy. Losing our ability to recognize what’s real might be.
