➡️ Detecting fake news online is an increasingly complex challenge as AI becomes more effective.

ℹ️ This is because algorithms can generate falsified content more convincingly, making it more difficult for users to determine what is true and false.

🌐 Furthermore, social networks can use AI to recommend content to their users, reinforcing echo bubbles and social conformity.

🔍 It is always better to solve problems at the source. That's why AI can help in the fight against fake news.

📰 Almost all social networks are now trying to implement measures to combat the spread of fake news.

Here is an overview of the leading social networks and their measures to fight against disinformation:

🤖 Facebook has deployed various measures, such as adjusting its recommendation algorithms, adding more responsive reporting features, and partnering with third-party fact-checking organizations to improve the detection of fake news.

🤔 Twitter only implemented moderation features in 2020, mainly in response to the COVID-19 case, but fake news still attracts significant engagement.

🤕 YouTube removed videos sharing misinformation about vaccines and reduced the scope of borderline information, but many of the most viewed videos about the COVID-19 vaccine contradicted official health sources.

🔍 TikTok is sensitive to users sharing fake news related to elections, health, and finance and has since implemented measures such as providing users with more reliable content and partnering with independent fact-checkers to remove misleading content and accounts.

💬 As you can see, the COVID-19 crisis has made the big players aware of the importance of guarding against misinformation.

Nevertheless, there is still a long way to go.

The 2016 American elections, the Covid-19 pandemic, and the war in Ukraine: major news events have encouraged the spread of rumors, hoaxes, and intoxication online, particularly on social networks. 🤔 Have you ever been misled by false information on social networks?

😬 According to a study by Statista, 67% of American adults have been duped.

If social media spreads false information, it's due to several factors, such as:

- 🤖 The algorithms of social media platforms: favor engaging content, which can sometimes be misinformation.
- 👥 Social conformity: this means that social media users often confuse popularity with the reliability of the information.
- 💬 Echo bubbles: where users mainly consume information that fits their personal opinions.
- 📱 Information overload: where users select unreliable information.
- 🤖 Bot accounts: that share false information in an automated way.

Protecting oneself against all this is increasingly necessary to avoid being manipulated.

🤔 What can you do about it?

➡️ We know it; misinformation is a significant threat.

Ideally, for every online research, you should apply these four steps:

1. Examine the website and domain for reliability by checking the "about" section or searching the domain name. 🔍
2. Look for primary sources and references to verify the integrity of claims. 🧐
3. Report misleading content to search platforms. 📣
4. Use fact-checking to detect inaccurate or misleading content automatically. 🔬

But only some of us do this as it is too time-consuming and tedious.

Fortunately, artificial intelligence can now solve this problem.

Thanks to Buster.Ai, it is now possible to check any information in a few seconds with little or no human intervention.

📰 TikTok has become a primary source of information for the younger generation.

➡️ A Pew Research Center study proves this by showing that nearly 40% of Generation Z users prefer to search on TikTok rather than Google.

However, it is essential to note that the platform is known to contain vast amounts of fake news.

🌊 During the COVID-19 pandemic, TikTok had to make efforts to provide more reliable content and access to fact-checking centers.

➔ Despite these efforts, many videos on the platform still share false claims about sensitive topics.

Conclusion?

🌐 Although platforms like TikTok are proposing and developing solutions to combat the rise of misinformation, this does not mean everything on them today is true.

🔍 It is essential to check the information for yourself before taking it on board.

Did you know that there are local fact-checking organizations in each country:

🌊 At the moment, artificial intelligence is all the rage on social networks.

Current viral publications include:
➔ ChatGPT by OpenAI, a conversational algorithm based on large language models capable of human-level conversing
➔ Stable diffusion algorithms by Stability.Ai can turn any text into an image.
➔ Lensa, an AI-powered application that can turn your face into an avatar

The public interest in this kind of software is growing, and that's hugely positive.

🌐 It already started six years ago, AI is the next big revolution that will reshape our society.
It reinforces my belief that our company is moving in the right direction by developing the first information verification tool using artificial intelligence.

The good thing? Soon we won't have to explain the purpose of AI but simply the interest in protecting against misinformation.
What do you think about it? Will AI be the next digital revolution?
