4Dviews We put real humans at the centre of your XR projects with our volumetric capture system, the HOLOSYS+

4Dfx 1.7.0 is out!

After client feedback, we rebuilt the Look At filter from the ground up. Better performance preservation, fewer on-set constraints, animation over time, and a built-in preview.

Did we mention that processing time is down to a third of the previous version? 😉

We see you... 👀

Can you guess which 4Dfx feature is getting a major upgrade this week?

Fast motion. Complex props. Fine detail.

We put one of our most challenging sequences through the HOLOSYS Splatting pipeline - fast-paced capoeira movement combined with the intricate geometry of instruments like the berimbau, pandeiro, and atabaque.

From rapid kicks to delicate string detail, this is us pushing what volumetric capture can preserve.
Two separate performances. One immersive experience. 😉

What does a university do with a volumetric capture studio?

If you're the Centre for Creative Immersive XR at the University of Portsmouth, apparently everything.

Fashion students shoot their graduate collections with the HOLOSYS and take the reels to fashion week. Animation students capture their cat in the studio to study movement reference in Maya. Martial artists bring nunchucks and bow staffs. And then there's XR theatre production requiring seamless transitions between volumetric and motion capture.

Alex Counsell, Technical Director at CCIXR, put it simply: "The technology needs to disappear. The story is everything."

On the eve of the 81st anniversary of Victory in Europe Day, we're looking back at a project we're proud to have been a part of.

Last year, the TF1 team created an 8-minute immersive documentary retracing the final months of World War II - the Battle of the Bulge, the fall of Berlin, the German surrender - with a level of immersion that archival footage simply cannot replicate.

To capture the historical re-enactors and costumed soldiers who brought the story to life, the team filmed with the HOLOSYS system at Studio Extensible in Paris. The team filmed each performer in full 4D to give complete freedom over camera angles in post-production for the sweeping movements that pull you straight into the action.

We sat down with Benjamin Poussard, Research Engineer at Arts et Métiers, to talk about how volumetric video is reshaping the field of XR.

His take? Volumetric capture is becoming a standard way of archiving knowledge. And the technology is only getting more accessible.

Freeze at the end of a take? Not anymore. 🥋

A volumetric video that resets or stops is not great for background scenes. That's exactly why we built the Morphing tool in 4Dfx - loop a volumetric sequence seamlessly, so your character keeps moving naturally for as long as the scene needs.

We used real capoeira footage shot on HOLOSYS+ as the sample data, so you can follow along and try it yourself. Watch the clip and tell us where you think the cut is! 👀

The UN designated 21 April as World Creativity and Innovation Day to raise awareness of the role of creativity and innovation. But that's not a once-in-a-year topic for us.

With nearly 2 decades of volumetric capture experience, every shoot, every capture, every pixel of a real human being reconstructed in 3D is a small bet that innovative storytelling deserves better than a flat screen.

In October 2025, our work was recognised at the France 2030 State Innovation Competition ceremony in Paris, alongside some of the most ambitious tech projects in the country.

The creators we work with don't come to us for tech. They come to us because they want to tell stories nobody else can tell yet. If you're a filmmaker, studio, or brand ready to go beyond flat media, drop us a message!

Location-based entertainment is evolving fast. And the productions inside those experiences are expected to keep up.

Alexandre BOUCHET - CEO of Laval Virtual, Managing Director of Clarté, and Board Member of CNXR - has spent years at the center of the XR ecosystem.

At the Laval Virtual Hackathon, students filmed with the HOLOSYS for the first time. What came out of it informed his perspective directly.

His take on volumetric assets in LBE:
"The format will, in the future, use more and more these kind of assets because they bring quality, they are easy to use, and easy to produce."

As LBE projects become more ambitious, audiences expect a higher level of realism and the pipeline to get there needs to be accessible across the board.

Laval Virtual 2026 is a wrap for us!

Over the three days, a lot of people stopped by to talk about their projects with volumetric video. What stood out most this year was the number of content creators with real stories to tell and the tools to tell them.

We also got to spend time with the team at Arts et Métiers - École Nationale Supérieure d'Arts et Métiers, our partner studio right in the heart of the city.

Thanks to everyone who came by Booth 15. See you next year!
