Our latests Repair Cafe event had a number of fixes:
- A jacket needed a broken zip repair
- A lamp had a sticky on/off switch
- A jumper needed a hole in the elbow patched
- A laptop needed cleaned
- Another lamp needed a replacement fitting
- A roller blind needed a lost part replicated (using 3D printer)
- A vintage toy train needed a carriage repair
- A old oven needed a replacement dial made (using 3D printer)
- An iPhone needed a new battery inserted

These are just some of the fixes at our past event and may give you ideas for things you may want repaired at our next event.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

When you visit the Achmore Repair Café you are asked to register your repair (using a form provided) at the entrance of the hall, then you will be directed to the appropriate repair station. Volunteer repairers are waiting with their tools and machines, but if there is a queue, you can enjoy coffee and cake in the cafe and your repairer will call your name when it is your turn.

The Repair Café isn’t just about providing a repair service, a key part of its ethos is to demonstrate how the repair is done. The idea is for visitors to sit and watch how their repairer approaches the problem so visitors will hopefully feel more confident about sourcing components and attempting repairs themselves in the future.

The Repair Café:

✅ All repairers are volunteers (therefore repairs are at the visitors own risk)

✅ Aim to bring one item for repair (if not too busy more might be possible)

✅ Bring any spare parts if you know what is needed

✅ Do watch, learn & ask questions

✅ Please donate as you see fit
