Sharing this one. I wouldn't usually share a rant but i see some friends who are full-time artist being impacted by AI.
With my real job being in IT, I am not adverse to AI being used as a tool for some things, but the volume of AI artwork out there is mind blowing.
I think, as an Artist (of sorts...I'm no Van Gogh) that the AI generated stuff is a little boring. Frankly it all looks the same, using same colour palette, same styles, same ex*****on...with zero individuality. I was recently in Edinburgh and was amazed at the AI generated tourist stuff....where you walk into a shop and are met by a wall of Highland Cows that all look the same strewn across so many goods from mugs to aprons.
It will be hard for any artist to compete with free, which is the current AI model....but that won't last, as there's no profit in free for the big corporations.
Anyway, for those that have supported me i can only say thankyou, your have funded an individuals, got me a beer or two or a new scooter/bike part. When you support real artist you are supporting individuals and families, with AI you are supporting the big faceless corporations.
I think it is time for another revolution....back to basics, a bit like the Arts & Crafts movement, which rose in the late 1800's through the 1920's as a stand against mass industrialisation, where people went back to craftsmen and women for goods vs the big mass producing companies. Lets get back to local!
