Data Recovery - Emergency Do’s & Don’ts
We know how sudden data loss can cause panic! But there are a few things that you can do (and just as importantly, NOT do!) to give you the best chance of getting that data back.
Do’s:
- Try to remain calm, and make a note of what you were doing when the system failed, as well as anything you do afterwards for reference.
- If you notice any unusual changes in your drive or system, try to take a back-up straight away before it fails.
- Check that the drive’s power and data connections are in fact connected.
- If it is an external drive that has failed, try connecting it to another working machine (it may not be the drive that’s the problem).
- If the drive or computer is making a clicking or grinding noise, turn it off immediately - don’t try to keep working.
- Keep regular back-ups!
- If you still can’t access your drive, call Blue Apple Data Recovery - we are here to help!
Don’ts:
- Do not put your hard drive in the freezer! This can allow moisture to enter the unit, causing further damage and potentially making the data unrecoverable.
- Similarly, do not try to heat up the drive.
- Do not hit, drop or open up the drive. You may displace the head or get dust into the drive, which will make the situation even worse.
- Do not try to work through a clicking or grinding noise - turn it off.
- Try not to panic!
