So here it is. Update number 3
20 days ago whilst cycling in Mallorca, I was faced with an oncoming vehicle on my side of the road as I sped down Hill. I went over a barrier and into Cliff face. Effectively a car crash without a car to protect me. 😢
Thank you, to Steve Spendlove for protecting my neck whilst the ambulance was dispatched. ❤️
With help from fantastic friends and passers by, I was delivered safely to hospital. Accompanied by Darren in the front seat.
I have suffered two fractured vertebrae (6&7) a broken collarbone, sustained several cracked/broken ribs & suffered severe lung concussion. I had to have a chest drain inserted for internal bleeding and fluid build up in my lungs, and the collarbone could not be reset due to the fact it was inbetween the two main arteries of the neck, which could've caused me to bleed out at the side of the road. This may need looking at later 😩
My brother Andrew Hill, who I love dearly, flew over especially for the day, even though he has health problems of his own ❤️ I was Visited by friends who I was holidaying with, Tom, Dawn & Steve Spendlove, Kirstie & Daz Dodsley, I spent 8 days in ICU before being transferred to the ward for a further 12 days, where I have spent the majority of the time laid down flat, as that is the most comfortable position. Experiencing new to me problems - typing on my phone with one hand. Wiping my ass etc etc 😂
Every step of the way, I was being being cared for by my beautiful wife Sarah-jane, without her love and care I would not have got to this stage. I remember during my time in ICU with her, I could only stare at the ceiling - she helped me by playing ispy! 😂 Unfortunately, the only things I could see was the ceiling, a fan and a light - as I couldn't move my head. She cheated and chose 'W' for window! Funny now but at the time .... 😂 (for Sarah anyway)
Oh & I will never forget having to be washed EVERYWHERE by four complete strangers in ICU when I could not move at all 😭
Luckily Sarah took over that role when I was on the ward 😂😂😂
We are now in a situation where I need to wait whilst I finish my steroids to see if the inflammation will go down before surgery.
It's so very painful because my bowling ball of a head needs to be supported by a neck collar shaped like a golf tee ,which needs to be supported by a broken collarbone, which needs to be supported by broken ribs!
Healing of the neck vertebrae take months not weeks to heal, so the doctors here recommend I fly home, and have given me lots of painkillers for the journey, and have past me fit to fly. ✈️
Once we land, I have been advised to go straight to the Queens Medical Centre for further assessment and to get on the good old English NHS system.
I'm currently in the hotel with Sarah, waiting for the insurance company to fly us home. Thank you all for your wishes and messages of support. I love you all. ❤️
