We're going to say something most ATS vendors won't:

Not all AI in recruitment is safe to use.

The technology has moved faster than the governance has. And there's a specific category - what we call "black box" AI scoring - that's quietly creating real legal exposure for UK HR teams.

Here's what it is:
An AI reads a candidate's CV or personal statement and produces a score. The logic is generated dynamically. It can't be reproduced, can't be audited, and can't be fully explained; not by the vendor, not by you, not to the candidate.

The same person submitting the same application twice can get a different score.

Now consider:
β†’ UK GDPR Article 22 restricts solely automated decisions with significant effects on individuals.
β†’ University of Washington research found AI models preferred CVs with white-associated names in 85% of cases.
β†’ In Mobley v. Workday, a US federal court ruled AI vendors can be held liable as agents of the employer.

The cases are American but the principles apply directly under UK law.

AI in recruitment isn't a technology question. It's a leadership one.
