Today marks the first of our 'Girls into Electronics' events, taking place at the University of Strathclyde.

We're excited to welcome students for a day of hands-on activities, industry insights and opportunities to explore the many pathways into Electronics and engineering.

We’re delighted to announce that the Semiconductor Talent Award 2026 is open for applications! 📢

400 Awards will be available to students starting a degree in Autumn 2026 at a UKESF Partner University, studying Electronics (or a related subject), Computer Science, Materials Science or Physics.

The initiative has been extended and expanded, to provide £4,000 scholarships alongside a comprehensive package of support that includes:

🏢 In-person events and regional industry engagement opportunities
💻 Industry insight and professional development webinars
🤝 An experienced industry mentor

The deadline to apply is 22:00 on 30 June 2026.

Girls into Electronics 2026 📢

We still have a limited number of spaces available for Girls into Electronics, this is a brilliant opportunity for students – aged 14 -17 (in years 10, 11 or 12) – to get an insight into what it’s like to pursue a rewarding career in Electronics.

Join us for an exciting day where students will hear from an Apple engineer, get hands-on with a microcontroller, and learn more about an exciting, important and growing field. What's more, participants have the opportunity to apply for the Apple mentoring program! 🍎

We’re thrilled to have partnered with AMD to bring impactful outreach into primary schools, helping inspire the next generation of STEM enthusiasts.

The UKESF Primary Electronics Programme offers a fun introduction to Electronic concepts, with cross-curricular learning outcomes. With industry support, the programme gives primary-aged pupils the chance to hear from real-world Electronics Engineers, who share their passion for the sector and lead engaging ‘snap circuits’ activities.

Katrina Goodfellow from AMD said: ‘This was my first time being involved in delivering a STEM event in primary schools, and I found it incredibly rewarding. Seeing the students’ curiosity, creativity, and determination as they explored how electronics work, and realizing that STEM really can be for everyone, is something I am genuinely proud to have been part of.’

We’re pleased to share some photos from our fantastic Get into Semiconductors event yesterday 🔬

A big thank you to Swansea University for hosting, Mohammad Monfared for organising the event and to Owain Isaac, Karin Ennser, Augustine Egwebe, Owen Guy and Catherine Lundie for their support in making the event such a success.

It was great to see so many students engaging with opportunities in the semiconductor and Electronics industry.

Bookings for Girls into Electronics 2026 are now...OPEN 📢

Girls into Electronics is a brilliant opportunity for female students – aged 14 -17 (in years 10, 11 or 12) – to get an insight into what it’s like to pursue a rewarding career in Electronics.

Those attending will have the opportunity to:
👩‍🎓 Participate in a Q&A with female Electronics Engineers
🎤 Hear from an Apple engineer
🤖 Get hands-on with a microcontroller (that they can take home!)
🍎 Apply for the Apple Mentoring Program, following the event

This year, there will be one day events taking place at 15 of our wonderful partner universities, including: University of Strathclyde; The University of Edinburgh; King's College London; University of Southampton; Royal Holloway, University of London; University of Leeds; UCL

Now entering its fourth year, Girls into Electronics, with the support of Apple , has been attended by 1,500 students - from over 200 different schools - many of whom have gone on to study Electrical and Electronics Engineering at university!

This International Women’s Day, we are proud to champion the who are shaping the innovations of tomorrow.

Nishika Chettry, Firmware Engineer at Renesas Electronics and Graduated UKESF Scholar

💡Inspiration: As a child, Nishika dreamed of becoming an astronaut, and that dream gradually evolved into an aspiration to become a robotics engineer.
🚀 Everyday impact: During Nishika’s final year at university, she built a prototype of a smart bin that automatically segregates waste.
⚡Exciting innovation: “Electronics is the backbone of technology, and it is really exciting to see how it is driving progress in fields such as AI, robotics, space exploration and renewable energy.”
