Topaz Cafe - Legacy Page

Topaz Cafe - Legacy Page We have since added another venue, to the original café, in Dukinfield. So for a place to stop, think and eat there is no place like Topaz Cafés.

Permanently closed.

A legacy page for the Topaz Café that ran for over 10 years in Ashton, which had built up an excellent reputation in delivering fantastic, quality vegetarian and vegan food at an affordable price! Topaz Café in Ashton was launched in 2007 and since then has built up an excellent reputation in delivering excellent quality vegetarian food at an affordable price. All of our cafés run with the same va

lues of using locally sourced supplies, serving healthy food and providing a relaxed atmosphere. In 2010 we launched the Kitchen Garden project to provide community allotments to local people to help them get outdoors and also to help provide fresh vegetables for the cafés. This allows people to come down to the sites, meet other participants, talk about things, grow plants and of course dig holes! Regular exercise and the consumption of a healthy diet can lead to a host of benefits, including increased energy, happiness, health and even a longer life. Exercise and diet are vital to determining a person’s overall health, and making them both part of your lifestyle can make a dramatic difference in how you look and feel. Combining the benefits of the café and allotments helps fulfil these requirements for our customers and participants. So please have a look around the site, click on the areas for more specific information and if you need any other information please contact us. We look forward to seeing you soon!

After many great years of running a vegetarian café, following lockdown we have collaborated with members of the community to “co-design” on how best to use this space.

The co-design results indicated more of a community shared space, therefore the Topaz Café will not be reopening, instead we will be launching Communi-tea!

Communi-tea will be a space for varied events for the community to use, including pop up cafes, coffee mornings, and various groups such as knit and natter, mindfulness groups etc. We are currently in the process of designing the space and are seeking funding to change the physical space.

Thank you to all the people that have helped us and thank you to the community who supported Topaz throughout it's lifetime!
If anyone wants to get involved in the next steps please get in touch with Caroline by emailing: [email protected]

We are in the process of re-branding and re-launching our community café space which will be working alongside our new Wellbeing Hub offer. Our aim for the café is for it to become a welcoming place for members of the public, service users, and staff to feel welcomed and relaxed, offering activities to help boost their mental wellbeing whilst enjoying simple and wholesome food and drinks.

We have already had some fantastic ideas and feedback from our co-production group consisting of service users, staff, and volunteers, and will be implementing these over the coming months.

Our first big change will be the name of the café. Currently known as the Topaz Café, feedback from our group was that it didn’t have a clear message, and that some assumed the café was for service users only. So, we would like to hear from you. We have two final choices for our name, please take a look and let us know in the comments below what you’d like our new café to be called:

- Communi-Tea
- Café Revive

Today is the final day of our emergency appeal. We want to thank all 369 supporters for some truly remarkable fundraising during very difficult times.

It's unlikely we'll hit our target before the end of the day but every penny helps.

The local Oldham Mental Health System are looking to establish the Oldham Living Well Collaborative. The Oldham Collaborative is a group of leaders and change makers, including leaders and professionals from the NHS, Local Authority, voluntary sector workers, people with lived experience and carers. Over the next year we will be holding regular working groups aimed at designing a new service model for mental health that will be co-produced and improve access and outcomes to our local residents.

The first session is planned for 1st April, and we would like to invite service users who have experience of Oldham’s Mental health service to join us for this. We are looking for around 7 or 8 people to join us. It is important that people feel able to speak comfortably about their experience and that they are confident to do so. The session will be for around 30 people and it will be via Zoom. We will of course be available to support before and after the event and can provide guidance beforehand as well.
