Since 2006, we’ve been building automated test solutions for the data storage and networking industry. Quarch began out of a desire to address the unreliable, tedious and expensive nature of manual physical layer testing methods for data storage systems. Now, we have a range of solutions to make device testing reliable, repeatable and fast. Our products are used worldwide, by businesses of all sizes - and are built right here in our warehouse in Scotland. Quarch automated hot-plug tools are now considered a mandatory testing component of the NVMe storage standard in the USA. We support businesses of all sizes - from the smallest startups to the blue-chip leaders. Get in touch to find out how we can help you qualify, measure and analyze the performance of your storage and networking products.

A major update to the PPM range is being introduced at FMS 2026.
The MegaPPM is an upgraded addition to our industry-leading HD Programmable Power Module (HD PPM).

The new device is compatible with exiting automation and fixtures but adds some key upgrades
🔵 4x the sample rate. The MegaPPM now has 1 MHz base sampling for higher detail capture. This will allow power inrush and similar to be seen in more detail. Even when recording at slower rates, every sample is used to calculate the most accurate possible power measurement
🔵Increased power output. The MegaPPM jumps from 60W to 90W total output power, to handle the newest enterprise devices

Stop by Quarch at booth #613 to review the hardware and talk through your power measurement requirements with Kyle and Laurie from Quarch Technology.

Vancouver is a key hub for PCIe, Ethernet, and AI. Our technical director, Andy Norrie, recently spent time on the West Coast connecting with customers with our reseller Testforce. For many customers, Gen5 is still the main driver. Gen6 is a big thing, but mainly for the early adopters. Gen7 is very much on the roadmap and mainly being driven by AI. The Gen8 spec is already at v0.5, so it is progressing quickly as well. A trip highlight included our visit to LTT Labs, part of Linus Media Group. 🚀 Inspiring the Next Generation of Highland Tech!
Stuart Boon, from the Software Engineering team at Quarch Technology, recently joined the Digital Technology & Computing Fair at Kingussie High School . Stuart brought along our power analysis products, breakers and a selection of drives for live demos, showing S2 pupils exactly what we build right here in the 🏔️

After a brief presentation on Quarch, the kids played "Yank the Drive" — pulling a drive from an imaginary server while it wrote photos. Pull too soon and photos corrupt; pull too late and you waste electricity (bad for the environment and your wallet). Teams timed attempts and refined their guesses to find the sweet spot, demonstrating how iterative testing and informed decisions lead to the right answer.

After winning the game, they built a Python program to test the same problem — unscrambling the code on paper before running it on a computer. Five increasingly complex iterations were no match for them, and the bright minds solved every one with ease.

It was a brilliant opportunity to show that world-class software engineering happens right on their doorstep in Aviemore and hopefully inspire some young minds - perfect timing as these students prepare for their S3 elective choices!

A huge thanks to the staff and students for the warm welcome. The future of Highland tech is looking bright!

The "Gen6 test kit gap" risks stalling validation cycles. If your latest product testing relies on a full host-to-device link at Gen6, you’ve likely hit the lack of available test equipment.

Validation shouldn't be the bottleneck for Gen6 integration, so we've been working on ways to get you testing quickly while the rest of the industry catches up.

Our new AIC-to-MCIO adapter was built specifically for early testing when a native Gen6 MCIO host is unavailable. This allows you to quickly build the required test scenario.

Testing options:
🔷 AON ENCLOSURE - Connect to the Quarch Aon Gen6 drive enclosure for combined hot-plug, fault injection, and power/sideband analysis. All the key areas you need to test on early SSD designs.
🔷 SIMPLE JBOF - Suitable for any MCIO-cabled device, such as the SerialCables Hydra JBOF. Hook drives quickly into any standard host PC
🔷 HOST POWER TRIGGERING - Knowing exactly when the host power rails come up can be key to timing issues. External triggers for all 3 PCIe rails allow you to sync with external test kit such as a protocol analyser or Quarch PPM
🔷 SIDEBAND PROBING - Lower-speed sideband signals often cause enumeration problems. Debug points for PERST, WAKE, and SMBUS make probing straightforward.
