🚨 October - Cyber Awareness Month!🚨
Let's talk phishing emails!
Phishing emails are like the bad actors of the internet, pretending to be legitimate companies, banks, people or even your favourite online store ... all designed to trick you into spilling your passwords or credit card details 😈
🎣 How to Spot a Phishing Email 🎣
❗ Suspicious Senders ❗it might look like it's from your bank ... but take a closer look - it's "[email protected]" instead of "santander.co.uk". Close but no cigar!
🛑 Urgency Drama 🛑 they love to scare you into action. "Your account is locked" or "Your dog is in danger". Okay, maybe not the dog part but they'll definitely make you panic!
⚠ Too Good To Be True ⚠ "Congrats Bob/Bobbette, you've won a years worth of free Tesco food shops" … ummm
❕ Suspicious Attachments❕they'll ask you to "download this important file" which is probably full of malware just waiting to unleash it's grubby paws on your files. Hard pass on that thanks!
🧠 How to Outsmart them 🧠
✅ Don't Click Anything ✅ if it seems off then resist the urge to click!
✅ Verify First ✅ got an "urgent" email? Don't panic, call or email the company directly to confirm they sent the email 📞
✅ Security Tools Are Your Besties ✅ spam filters, antivirus and two-factor authentication are like your personal security squad!
Phishing emails may look convincing, but always trust your instincts - if something feels fishy it's probably because it's bait! 🎣
Lets stay savvy, stay safe! 🔐✨
