Spent a fantastic day yesterday visiting thebrown_collection in Marylebone, and it is an absolute must see for anyone who appreciates fine art and printmaking.

What makes the collection so special is the complete lack of hierarchy. Printmaking, drawing, and painting are placed side by side on equal footing, exactly as it should be. The dialogue between the mediums is brilliant.
At Dekkle, that is a core philosophy we constantly champion. It is never just about pushing ink onto paper for the sake of the process; it is always about the art, the line, and the mark making.
We were particularly blown away by these masterly engravings on display, including Hendrik Goltzius’s The Creation of the World (1589). The precision in the line work, cross-hatching, and dramatic swells of tone are a masterclass in the medium.

A massive shoutout to Ellie for her incredible patience with us. Our studio move was supposed to take two months, but ended up dragging on for nearly a whole year. At one point, we were honestly ready to call DIY SOS to come and bail us out!
We are so ridiculously happy to finally have her back in the space making magic happen. Thank you for sticking with us, Ellie! It was well worth the wait to see the studio messy and full of creative life again.

Where Heavy Iron Meets Open Skies
Our new garden table is almost finished, and it carries the very history of the studio in its bones. The top is built from the exact heavy-duty timber we used to construct the trolley for our one-and-a-half-ton etching press, so we know it won't flinch under weight. Supporting it are solid metal legs rescued from an old offset litho press, alongside a few other mystery workshop parts that found a purpose here rather than gathering dust.
Built to easily hold our largest stone litho stone, it lets us take the creative process right out into the fresh air. Drawing en plein air in the garden brings back that wonderful Italian phrase we talked about while laying the patio: il dolce far niente, the sweet art of slowing down, doing nothing, and just being present.
Unlike large, cold, commercial art studios, we wanted this atelier to feel personal, calm, and deeply rooted in craftsmanship. You can sit outside in the garden with a warm cup of tea or a glass of wine, drawing on stone under the open sky, just feet away from the print shop where those marks will come to life on paper.
The studio is nearly ready, and we are so close to opening the doors.

Fantastic to have Bee linbeedwo in the studio today for her very first session as one of our new members!
She officially inaugurated the newly tidied space, bringing in her stunning drawings on stone to be processed in the studio. Hearing her plans for multi-stone color printing has us properly excited for what's ahead.

The dust has settled, the builders are gone, and the quiet is broken by a familiar, reassuring rhythm.
Watch as the sweep begins with the slow, graceful turn of the etching press, its steady, mechanical hum breathing warmth back into the clean room. We pass the cool, timeless weight of the stone litho, moving toward our Albion relief press, standing quietly as it waits to be assembled piece by piece.
As the wheel rolls to a gentle rest at the end, the noise of construction completely fades away. The craft has its sanctuary back, and the true sounds of the printmaking studio are finally coming to life.

Final touches are happening! The paper hangers are up, surfaces are spotless, and the studio is looking great.
The presses are perfectly placed, and the floor is completely clear. A few members have actually been working in the space over the last couple of weeks!

Finally spent the last three days getting all our letterpress type sorted and into its new location.
It was a huge task, but having every case organised makes all the difference. We do things a bit differently here: we aren't a traditional commercial print shop setting business cards. We are fine art and image-based specialists, using letterpress as a expressive medium in its own right.
Having everything back in place, including some great metal type, means we are ready to go. We love pushing the creative side, combining type directly with image-making to build rich, textured work.

Making steady progress. The lithography stones are back in their racks, and we are almost ready to open our doors.
We have a handful of Open Access spaces opening up. We are a small, dedicated specialist studio, and we keep our membership small to support our members properly. When reviewing applications, your current skill level isn't the deciding factor. We welcome everyone from absolute beginners to working professionals, as long as you bring the right attitude and a clear idea of where you want to take your work.
