We are running out of IP Addresses...
So IPv6 was created. To illustrate how many addresses this offers is easiest with a simple analogy - if the total of old IPv4 addresses could be represented by a golf ball, the number of IPv6 addresses would be equivalent to the sun. It will be almost impossible to distribute all of these addresses - for example if 1 trillion IPv6 addresses were allocated per second, it would take 10 quintillion years to run out (more than 700 million times the age of the universe).
