This weekend marks the anniversary of the tragic loss of RMS Titanic, 112 years ago. National Museums Northern Ireland (NMNI) has an amazing collection of original photographs, which document the design, construction and launch of Titanic. The images, taken by the manufacturers Harland & Wolff and local enthusiasts, have been digitised in high resolution by NMNI. We have included many of the images in our recent Ulster-Scots educational project, “My Yarns.” It was while we were working on My Yarns that we realised we have enough material to create this short video. It captures the atmosphere in Belfast Harbour as the hull of the great ship is launched into the water for fitting out in preparation for its maiden voyage from Southampton. It is our tribute to all the people who were touched by those events over a century ago.
