*Music Production Laptop not starting - Resolved with Great Feedback🤝🎧*

On Friday afternoon we received a text message from a new customer asking for help with a Music Production Laptop that had crashed and wouldn't start.

Within 48 hours we had the device delivered, performed an inspection, provided options on the type of repair that could be performed, actioned the customer chosen plan and returned the device running like new on Windows 11.

*Laptop 💻 will not turn on - Fixed* 🙌

Over the last month our most popular repair has been laptops / MacBook not turning on.

This can be caused by a number of reasons but below are the steps as would generally follow:

> Test the device to confirm it's not switching on when on battery 🔋
> Test the device connected to the charged ⚡
> If you have a spare known working charger that fits try this 🤔
> If accessible remove the battery and test the device just connected with the charger ⚡
> Open the laptop casing and remove the ram memory modules and check if the laptop starts on the charger (it should make loud bleeping sounds if the motherboard is working)

Beyond the above processes if you are still experiencing problems it may require a more advanced repair with new hardware components.

*New Outlook View Driving a Customer 🤯 - Fixed* 🙌

This week a customer dropped us a message via our website at the point of throwing her brand new laptop out the window! 💻 🪟😳

Her Microsoft Outlook emails had changed its view and she was unable to change it back or find important emails.

Within minutes we had established a remote session onto her device, isolated the cause of the issue and followed the below process:

> Closed Outlook
> Opened the start menu
> Typed Run and opened the run box
> Typed in Outlook /cleanviews & press enter
> Open Outlook and all fixed

Sometimes users accidently alter a view setting or the latest update from Microsoft conflicts with your custom view.

The above steps resolved the issue within minutes and removed the need for the laptop to be launched! 👌

We often find problems customers spend hours trying to fix or Google ways to fix we can solve in minutes, saving ⏰ and 💰!

*MacBook Pro 2020 randomly turning off - ❌ Not Repaired 👎*

As with all repairs there is always a chance that the repair is not successfull.

For this MacBook Pro 💻 the device would intermittently turn off at random times, after spending 30+ hours attempting numerous different repairs it has been isolated that there is a fault with the motherboard.

As the device is no longer under warranty, the screen has a black line fault and the hinge is faulty causing the screen to be loose this device has been deemed beyond economic repair and returned back to the customer.

We deemed this device BER because the cost to replace the motherboard, the hinges and the screen would be close to the cost of a replacement device. The customer accepted this and will be looking to buy a new replacement with 3 years of Apple Care Warranty to protect the new device.

When a device is outside the warranty period a hardware repair may get the device back working again but if the part fails again outside the guarantee period it can become expensive and exceed the cost of a replacement device. ⚖️

We always prefer to be honest with our customers and provide recommendations that provide the best possible outcome.

*MacBook Reported Virus Issue 🦠 - Resolved 👌*

A question we often get asked - Can a Mac get Virus's ⁉️🤔

Just this week we received a call from a previous customer who was a little panicked as they had a "Your device is infected with a Virus!!!" Message popping up on their MacBook.

Although Apple Mac 💻 🖥️ devices are far more secure by design than Windows devices, increasingly malicious hackers are designing software that targets Windows and Mac devices.

Historically Microsoft Windows devices have been the no.1 target due to the popularity, as Mac devices are now more widely adopted they have then in turn become a more valuable target.

As mentioned Mac devices are less succeptable to attacks and Virus's that would infect a Windows device. The vast majority of Mac users don't use Anti Virus products. But if you allow access by entering your password when prompted, you effectively are allowing malicious software to run on your device.

For this customer we performed a diagnosis of the device, removed the malicious software and cleaned up any unwanted pop ups, all ready for normal use again within a few hours! 🙌

Our advice, for the vast majority of users it's fine to use a Mac without an anti virus product installed but ensuring that you are extra vigilant that it is a genuine prompt you are expecting to enter your password 🔑

*New Business PC Setup 🙌👌👏*

Last month we had the pleasure of working with a business that wanted to upgrade their business PC, that is used for CAD design work.

This beast of a PC provided a significant increase in performance that will ensure that they have a device that can keep up with the demands of advanced CAD software packages, while also lasting for a number of years! 💯

Running an Intel i9 processor with Windows 11 this device was a dream to setup and configure.

*Old Mac Device Cant Update / Crashing - Upgrade to a Chromebook Device for Free*

We had a call this week from a local couple who had a MacBook Air that was no longer able to receive the latest updates from Apple and was used to browse the internet.

They were not in a position to purchase a new device but asked if there was anything that could be done 💻🤔

Unfortunately when an Apple Device reaches a certain age it no longer receives updates and doesn't receive the recommended security patches. This leaves the device susceptable to malicious attacks and vulnerabilities.

*Hacked E-Mail Account sending Malicious messages - Resolved* 👽 🦠🔑👌

Not the most uplifting of subjects but something we have seen a 10x increase of over the last few years...Cyber Attacks

Why it's happening? It's alot easier to perform a cyber attack from anywhere in the world than physically perform a crime.

"It's not a matter of IF you will be Cyber Attacked, it's a matter of when" 💯🙌

At POLA Technical Solutions we have been supporting customers become more Cyber Aware for a number of years and use NCSC (National Cyber Security Centre) guidelines to form our recommendations.

For this customer she had received a message from a colleague that an unusual E-Mail had come from her account with an attachment. Immediately she contacted us as she was extremely worried that by accessing her E-Mail, they would also effectively have access to her sensitive company OneDrive/SharePoint files.

To resolve the issue we setup a remote session and performed the below:

- Reset her password to a new secure password 🔐

- Enable Multi Factor Authentication (MFA) via her phone 📱 (this is free enable it now if you are reading this, it stops 90%+ of all account breaches)

- Performed a virus scan of her device 🦠🦟

- Checked for unusual activity on the device for new applications

- Checked the E-Mail account for unusual inbox rules (hackers want to hide there actions so this is always an indicator of a breach)

- Checked the E-Mail account for malicious forwarding rules (another one to watch out for)

- Inspected the Office 365 admin console for malicious activity by IP address (you can use this to geo locate where the malicious sign ins occurred from)

- Recommended for all colleagues that received the malicious E-Mail to delete it and not open it

Once the above was performed the customer had the peace of mind that her account was now secure and had taken away the anxiety she had that someone was still in her account.

*Chromebook used for Gaming issue - Resolved* ✅👏

Last weekend we had a parent contact us asking for support with their daughters Chromebook. The device was being used for Gaming with Apps but had become sluggish, screen colour distorted and the game crashing regularly mid use. 🎮

We had the device dropped off and performed the below steps to get it back working again:

- Checked for App updates
- Checked and installed the latest 115 Chrome OS update
- Checked and ensured gaming log in credentials and recovery email was working
- Uninstalled the problem gaming app
- Re installed the gaming app from the Play Store
- Tested and confirmed the Chromebook was no longer lagging while playing the game and the app was no longer crashing / kicking them out every 5 minutes

One very happy gamer able to get back to doing what she loves and a relieved parent that the Summer Holidays may be a little more peacefull / with less tantrums!

*Reset a forgotten Windows 10 Password Issue - Resolved* 🔑👌

This week we received an email via our website from a panicked customer, they had forgotton the password to their home laptop which they had alot of important family photos on.

Using a specialist application we were able to remove the current password and replace it with a new one. This cannot be performed remotely so the device was collected and returned to the very happy customer. They had thought it was not possible to gain access to the device and was going to have to engage with a data recovery company.

All resolved the same day, at a fraction of a data recovery cost.

*Microsoft Teams app crashing and can't sign in Resolution 👌*

An all to familiar issue that we have reported - The Microsoft Teams app is showing the below error page because it's crashed or you can't sign in!

As always this seems to happen when you have that important video call you need to attend or a conversation that you need to reply to! 🤯😤🤬

We recently had the below picture sent to us from a customer via WhatsApp with a "Please can you help??? I have an interview tomorrow and Teams isn't working"

We connected remotely and from a quick check were able to identify that the issue was affecting Microsoft Teams, Outlook and Word.

Following the below steps we were able to get the issue resolved:

- Signed out of all saved accounts in Teams and closed
- Signed out of Outlook / Word from the synced account
- Checked for Microsoft Office updates and installed
- Removed the connected account in Settings > Accounts
- Signed back into the connected accounts screen
- Tested Outlook, Word and then Teams
- After successfully signing back in updated Teams to the latest version

The above process is very effective in restoring access for sign in issues, if the problem persists it would be recommended to perform a repair / re install of Microsoft Office or Teams via the Microsoft Website.
