🚨 Beware of Fake “Microsoft Account Hacked” Emails & Text Messages 🚨

Cyber-criminals are sending extremely convincing fake emails and text messages claiming your Microsoft account has been hacked, your password has been reset, or a virus was found on your device. Their goal is to panic you into clicking a link or giving away your login details.

These scams can be dangerous because they sometimes trick people into handing over information the attacker can use to bypass two-step verification or gain long-term access to your account.

Here’s how to protect yourself:

✅ 1. Never click links in unexpected emails or texts

Even if the message looks official, scammers often copy Microsoft’s logos and wording.
Instead, go directly to the real site by typing:
https://account.microsoft.com
into your browser. Check your account only from there.

✅ 2. Look for these warning signs of a fake message

Urgent language like “Your account will be closed in 24 hours!”

Spelling or grammar mistakes

Unknown senders or strange phone numbers

Links that don’t go to a real Microsoft website

Attachments asking you to “install a security update”

✅ 3. Microsoft will never ask for your password in an email or text

No real security alert will ever ask you to reply with codes, passwords, or personal details.

✅ 4. If you think your account might be at risk

Go to your Microsoft account security page:
https://account.microsoft.com/security

From there you can safely:

Check recent activity

Change your password

Turn on two-factor authentication

Revoke any suspicious devices

✅ 5. Keep your device protected

Install updates on Windows, your phone, and your browser

Use reputable antivirus/anti-malware software

Make sure your recovery email and phone number are up to date

🚫 Don’t panic if you receive one of these messages

Receiving a fake alert does not mean you’ve been hacked.
You’re only at risk if you clicked a suspicious link or entered your details.

💬 Share this to help others stay safe!

Scammers rely on people being scared and uninformed. The more people know what to look for, the fewer victims they can create.
