Iterative simulation-based techniques for control of laser powder bed fusion additive manufacturing

Autodesk Netfabb simulation is full of hidden gems. Since its unique simulation model is 100% predictive from physical parameters, and without the need for fudge factors and calibration procedures, it can be used to optimize the build process in various ways.

This recent paper shows the simulation-based modulation of process parameters. It uses the thermal history prediction of the simulation in order to influence the stability of the process, and achieve a consistent melt pool size throughout the build.
