Happy Work Birthday Alarna!

Today we are celebrating with our first lunchtime visit to the newly opened The Red Lion, Jewellery Quarter where we had some lovely pizzas. This is in the garden, but there is a traditional dark wood, green tiled interior. Might become a Colour Cubed favourite!

Another busy couple of months at Colour Cubed! While Will was lucky enough to tick off a once-in-a-lifetime adventure in Japan, Simon completed an incredible charity walk from Bournville all the way to the East India Club in London – a fantastic achievement for a great cause.

Back in the studio, we've been keeping busy designing new posters for The Grand Hotel, supporting Leonardo Hotels with fresh menus and brochures, and catching up with the brilliant Future Faces community at Clays. A big congratulations to Will as well, who narrowly missed out on top spot but still walked away with a prize for having the second-best accuracy of the day!

April and May kept us busy with a wide range of creative projects, from designing The Queens Hotel Bournemouth collateral and Michael Jackson Tribute Night posters to getting a head start on Leonardo Hotels' Christmas brochure (yes, Christmas already!).
Alongside supporting Millennium Point with personalised branded stickers and merchandise, we welcomed aspiring graphic designer Ava for a two-week placement, celebrated Joe completing the Birmingham Half Marathon, and marked Simon’s birthday with the team.

Our managing director, Simon Greenfield, is walking from Birmingham to London for his partner, Alaine, who died of cancer last year. The money raised will go to Birmingham Hospice whose Wellbeing Team helped him with bereavement counselling. We'd like to say good luck to our amazing supporter Simon Greenfield, who visited our Selly Park site recently to launch his 160 mile walking challenge for Birmingham Hospice.

Simon told us: “Last year, my amazing partner, Alaine, died of cancer. I want to do something as amazing as she was to honour her memory.

"I am going to walk from our club in Birmingham to our club in London. I am setting off from Bournville Social Club on Saturday 13 June and walking the 160 miles of Grand Union Canal and River Thames to The East India Club in St James, avoiding all roads.

"This will take me two weeks, and I will be documenting my journey, and remembering Alaine, in a daily travel blog. This will include reviews of all 14 full English breakfasts, all 14 pub lunches and the local ales.

"Following the loss of Alaine, I was unfortunate to then lose my dad, Ron Greenfield, and soon after my cat, Mrs Puddykins. It was a very painful time for me. However, the Birmingham Hospice Wellbeing Team supported me through this difficult period with bereavement counselling, which I am very grateful for.

"In order to give something back for the help I received, I will be using the walk to raise money for Birmingham Hospice.”

We kicked off March in style, branding Edyn’s hotels in Copenhagen with a wide range of merchandise and hotel collateral.

From fresh new seasonal menus for The G Hotel to a bespoke board game for The Grand Hotel, it’s been a month full of thoughtful detail and standout touches.

To top it off, we joined the brilliant Future Faces community for a lunchtime event at The Distillery Birmingham — a busy and inspiring start to the month.

Today we welcomed Trevor Brown and the 1st year graphic design students of University College Birmingham to Colour Cubed Creative Communications where Steve Moszynski and Simon Greenfield showed them what a top design agency does and what a JQ design studio looks like to work in.

January and February have flown by in the studio… and it’s been a busy start to the year!

We welcomed Beatris, a BCU student, who joined us on placement for two weeks — learning how things work at Colour Cubed and gaining insight into how we deliver projects.

One of the highlights was designing the Amplify Town Hall installation in Victoria Square, bringing a bold creative presence right into the heart of Birmingham.

Alongside that, we delivered the TravelPerk installation at Millennium Point, created Valentine’s menus for The G Hotel, and continued working with Edyn’s hotel brands on a variety of creative projects across their portfolio.

February also included a brilliant Future Faces event at 24 Stories, with incredible views across the city and a great opportunity to connect with Birmingham’s young professionals.

A strong start to 2026 — and plenty more exciting projects ahead.
